Hyundai has very much been on a roll recently with new car releases, predominantly in its N range of sporty, high-performance cars. Just a day or so after revealing the Kona N, the company has put out a press release detailing the launch of their new Ioniq 5, the first model in Hyundai’s highly anticipated Ioniq dedicated BEV line-up brand, and the company has released some teaser videos showcasing what the car can do with new Vehicle-To-Load Technology.

A Camping Showcase

We have been expecting a lot from Hyundai with this car, and they've not dissapointed. Hyundai has done a series of “camping” videos showcasing the capabilities of the Ioniq 5. What is in these videos? The videos show the car's plug-in power supply used for a few tasks out in the wild. One of them shows the Ioniq 5 being used to cook a turkey in an electric oven, with the aim of saving the effort of building a campfire. Another video shows something even more outlandish: the Ioniq 5 being used to power a sound system with speakers and a turntable. The final video shows the same power supply used to power an exercise treadmill. This, all being done using the Ioniq 5’s 3.5 Kw of V2L power.

A Unique Design First For Hyundai

It won’t have escaped your attention that the Ioniq 5 has a very unique design. Hyundai says that this is a Parametric Pixel design theme. This are the smallest unit of digital imaging, and the front of the car is adorned with pixel-inspired lights, which are all suggestive of the digital technology within the car. Another unique feature is the clamshell hood. This is a first for Hyundai and it spans the whole width of the Ioniq 5, and this is aimed at minimizing gaps between the panels to give it a smooth, clean finish. On top of that, the car's wheels have been heavily aero-optimized in order to complement the pixel design theme. They are 20-inches in diameter and the largest rims ever fitted to a Hyundai EV.

More Content To Follow

via Hyundai

Hyundai plans on bringing a lot more content on the Ioniq 5, which include a teaser puzzle that unlocks more information on the car. Another video in the press release shows off the ‘5 Min Challenge,’ allowing you to drive 100km with a charging time of just five minutes. There is a dedicated pre-landing page to keep up to date with the Ioniq 5 and the teaser puzzle, and all the content Hyundai will produce. A virtual world premiere takes place via that page in February 2021, so be sure to keep an eye on the landing page.
