With Michael Mann at the helm, and a star-studded lineup, the film is set during the summer of 1957, with bankruptcy looming over Ferrari, Enzo sees the Mille Miglia race as his last chance at success.Related: 75 Years Of Ferrari: We Take A Look Back At The History Of The Prancing Horse

The Great Old Man Of Maranello

Born in 1898, with the exact date a mystery thanks to multiple accounts of snowstorms, and delays at the birth registration office; Enzo was born to Alfredo and Adalgisa Ferrari. With the family business fabricating metal parts, it’s no wonder Enzo was born with the passion to shape and race metal.

Seeing his racing debut in 1919, a year later Enzo would join Alfa Romeo as a team driver; the same company who would support the birth of Scuderia Ferrari, nine years later, in 1929. Unfortunately, less than a decade later, in 1937, Scuderia Ferrari would be dissolved, and Enzo would leave Alfa due to a spat with Alfa’s managing director.

Thanks to WWII and fascist dictator, Mussolini, Ferrari was forced to take part of the war effort, and would see his factory destroyed during the worldwide conflict. It was at this point Ferrari would relocate to Maranello, where he founded Ferrari S.p.A, in 1947. Ferrari would claim their first 24 Hours of Le Mans, just two years later.

By 1957, after boat loads of victories, Ferrari still faced the collapse of his company, and now criminal charges as his 335 S of the time, was responsible for the death of his driver, and nine spectators after a tire blowout at 250 KM/H, during the Mille Miglia.
