Now is your chance to own one of two concept test bed trucks from the past as an Innotruck has been offered for sale at JamesEdition.com. This definitely falls under the 'if you have to ask you can't afford it' umbrella, listed as 'price on request'. The strange looking truck was built as part of a program by the Technical University of Munich and designed by legendary designer Luigi Colani to test new technologies like drive by wire and driver assist and information technologies. One of the two examples was given to Colani before his death, this is the other one.

Built in 2012 in partnership with Siemens, the trucks were intended to test future technologies to make trucking cleaner, safer, and more efficient. The pointed arrowhead design was built to reduce drag with an electric drive section turning independently underneath it. Check it out above and below.

Efficient

The Innotruck was a glimpse of a possible future

While the Tesla and Nikola trucks grab headlines today as all electric over the road haulers, the Innotruck was testing electric drive back in 2012. The drive section is composed of battery powered electric motors with a diesel engine dedicated to power generation similar to a diesel electric train. At the time, these features made it the most efficient truck of its kind. That is, if there can be said to be trucks of its kind.

Display Model

Whatever the price, it's still being sold as a project. At some point a conversion to full electric was started but never finished. The cargo area has been decked out as a lounge for shows and events where the truck was used as a demonstration model. It was equipped to provide power as well, with the seller suggesting it as a mobile car charging station should one get it legal for EU roads.
