As the technology and resources for electric vehicles and hybrids become more available and affordable, many automotive manufacturers have begun to announce the impending end of their internal combustion engine (ICE) over the next several decades. To stay up to date and competitive, supercar brands such as Lamborghini have started to announce the introduction of their own electric models, but that doesn't mean these performance-oriented titans are giving up on their gasoline-powered engines just yet.

Those who are familiar with the Lamborghini brand are aware of its rich history in automotive performance and design — a history that isn't so easily forgotten with changing times and markets. In an interview with Welt am Sonntag, a German news outlet, the CEO of Lamborghini, Stephan Winkelmann, has given ICE-purists and performance car enthusiasts a glimpse of hope:

"After hybridization, we will wait to see whether it will be possible to offer vehicles with an internal combustion engine beyond 2030."

Ending the era of internal combustion engines and converting them to solely electric is a result of changing climate and the rising awareness of the carbon footprint that vehicles create while burning typical gasoline. There has been striking controversy surrounding this major change from gasoline enthusiasts and combustion engine purists, but it doesn't have to be the only change implemented in order to create more sustainable cars in the future.

As an alternative to both electric and gasoline-powered vehicles, some manufacturers are investing in research to discover the reasonable and sustainable use of other fuels, such as climate-neutral synthetic fuels.

This isn't the first major change we have seen in the supercar world, either, even from Lamborghini. Changes such as the addition of a family-oriented performance super SUV, the Lamborghini Urus, reflect the growing popularity of SUVs in the modern market. Lamborghini has yet to officially announce their first all-electric production vehicle but has hinted that they still have several more years of development and design under their belts in order to maintain the high levels of performance expected of the brand.
