Jaguar released its first electric vehicle, the I-Pace SUV, in March of 2018. Although Jaguar offers fewer electric options than manufacturers such as GM, its electric SUV has garnered accolades including World Car of the Year. The company also offers plug-in and mild hybrid models of the F-Pace SUV. 2021 versions will receive a variety of upgrades, including software improvements and faster home charging.

Jaguar hasn’t quite released an exhaustive lineup of future EVs, but they have developed a 90kWh battery described as lightweight and state-of-the-art. Although the C-X75 hybrid sports car never made it to production, the company has created viable electric SUV options. Let’s take a look at Jaguar’s current offerings and potential for future development within the electric vehicle realm.

JaguarDrive helps provide responsive acceleration up to 12,000 RPM. Customers can choose between modes such as Eco, Dynamic, Standard, and Rain/Ice/Snow.

“Adaptive Surface Response” is an integral feature of the I-Pace which enhances traction response on diverse surfaces. The SUV, driven by dual permanent magnet synchronous electric motors, is all-wheel drive.

MSRP for the 2020 I-Pace starts at $69,850. Although this is approximately $10,000 cheaper than the Tesla Model X Long Range Plus, its EV range is 117 miles shorter. It does offer 30 miles more range than the more expensive Audi E-Tron SUV, making it competitive in the market. Customers can also receive a federal tax credit of $7,500 for ownership of the I-Pace.

In 2019, the I-Pace obtained copious recognition at the World Car Awards including World Car of the Year, World Car Design of the Year, and World Green Car. Autotrader named the 2019 I-Pace in its 12 Best Cars for 2019, citing “thrilling driving dynamics with a quiet ride plus all the luxury we expect from a Jaguar.”

Jaguar’s hybrid C-X75 concept was released in 2010, although it never made it to production. One of the prototypes was used in the James Bond movie Spectre, which was later sold at auction. Although Jaguar has not released much detailed information on future EVs, it's likely that they will emerge with further offerings to hold their place in the rapidly expanding electric market.
