To commemorate the anniversary of the renowned Jaguar XK 120, the company has designed an impeccable showing of engineering and design insight in the form of its newest rally car.
Jaguar, the motor vehicle company, has been churning out vehicles since 1935. A long time indeed, and in all these years, the company sure has proven that they can indeed keep up with the changing times, and as Bob Dylan once said: “The times, they are a changing.”
But perhaps no one else knows that better than this company who has taken the luxury car and adapted it time and time again, and in so many interesting ways.
The company is located in Whitley, Coventry, England, has been owned by Tata Motors since 2008 and was merged with Land Rover in 2013. And since then, Jaguar seems to be producing vehicles that have taken the Jaguar name further than it’s ever been, with vehicles that are no doubt causing many to stir.
The rally cars it’s recently developed for 2019 are definitely one of the reasons motor heads are in fact stirring … and stirring quite enthusiastically at that.
The machine is no doubt a powerful beast incarnate despite some popular worries and misconceptions. According to wheels.ca, these rally cars definitely pack a punch, and what a punch at that.
We’re talking 300 hp, a 2.0 4-cylinder engine, state of the art brakes, drivetrain and suspension … this car has got it all and more. As it turns out, the car can do much more than just reach ultimate speeds and handle exceptionally well on the road. Apparently, thanks of some new designs and additions, particularly some hand-crafted competition dampers and softer springs, this vehicle can also outperform some vehicles known for all-terrain activity. That’s right … the car can perform off-road! Now, how’s that for innovation?
The hood lights are indeed the ultimate touch for this car that pays great homage to the XK 120 that in the 1950’s won two Alpine Rallies.
The F-Type on its own is already an impressive vehicle, but the rally cars are indeed something to get excited about. To quote the man responsible for these cars, the director of design at Jaguar, Ian Callum … “The opportunity to design a rally car doesn’t come along very often so I was fascinated to see how we could take our modern day sports car to a similar character. These models are a fitting tribute to the XK 120 and all the great Jaguar sports cars since its reveal 70 years ago, including the latest F-Type Checkered Flag Limited Edition.”
So, the official name for the cars is “The F-type Checkered Flag Edition,” but themanual.com warns that these vehicles won’t be for sale to the public – the special editions that is – but as it turns out, Jaguar will be developing a road car that will be for sale, and if nothing else, that’s something to get excited about.
