Jaguar has made the fastest four-door the British carmaker has ever built.

It’s called the Jaguar XE SV Project 8. As the name suggests, it’s based on the Jaguar XE executive sedan, but that’s where all similarity between the two cars end. The only components taken from the Jaguar XE other than the chassis are the roof and the front door body panels. That’s it.

Everything else has been gutted to make way for the most track-focused four-door car of all time.

Beneath the carbon fiber vented hood is the screaming sound of a 5.0-L supercharged V8 engine producing 592 horsepower. Zero to sixty is done in 3.3 seconds on its way to a top speed of 200 mph. That’s supercar performance out of a sedan.

But it’s not just power that Project 8 has--it’s also handling. The car comes standard with adjustable ride height, adjustable camber, adjustable front splitter and rear wing, a completely flat underbody, and 6-piston carbon ceramic brakes. The only tires that Jaguar will allow on the 20-inch forged alloy wheels are Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 track-ready rubbers.

The hood, spoilers, and bumper are all made of carbon fiber to further lighten the car and improve cornering performance.

Jaguar plans to only make 300 of these incredible sedans, and each one will be entirely handmade.

"The good thing about building only 300 cars, all hand-made, is that you can keep developing the car right up to the start of production,” says David Pook, Project 8’s vehicle dynamics manager. “And we’ve done just that."

“The springs have got stiffer and so have the engine mounts. The suspension arm bushes have changed. The brakes have been refined for the exact pedal feel and performance we want. This has all been done to make the car even more responsive and to handle even better,” Pook goes on to explain.

“But the biggest changes are to software. They are all small adjustments – to improve performance, feel, responsiveness, refinement. We keep honing the whole car, relentlessly.

“It’s certainly even faster, better handling and more responsive than it was six months ago. All that effort has been worth it.”

All that work has paid big dividends. The XE SV Project 8 lapped Germany’s Nurburgring last year and took home the track record for a four-door: 7min 21.23sec. That’s nearly 11 seconds faster than the previous record holder, the Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio.

Pricing starts at £149,995, or $207,000, but even at that price expect to find these Jaguars all poached very shortly.
