Jay Leno is a man who needs very little introduction. The former chat show host has dedicated the recent years of his life to showcasing his amazing collection of cars that are regularly featured on his YouTube channel entitled Jay Leno’s Garage, a spin-off of his CNBC show of the same name. Jay puts this knowledge to good use and is currently hosting his YouTube show on his own, and his latest video shows off the 2014 Morgan 3 Wheeler, which features the transmission from a Mazda Miata.

Miata Transmission Is Paired With The Morgan's 4-Valve Engine

The 3 Wheeler has a 115-hp 4-valve engine, which is a car so light it's more than enough. And it uses the Miata 5-speed transmission from Mazda, so it has a very dependable gearbox for track days! However, Jay says it is sadly not produced in Europe anymore, as it doesn't meet the current emissions but is a throwback to the original design of the 1930s and 1940s. Yet it's a barrel of laughs Jay says, and the fun factor is what makes him love driving it. It's not unstable either, and why was it a three-wheeler? Jay explains that in the UK, you could avoid paying car tax, and it meant you only had to pay motorcycle tax.

Basic Hood Layout Belies The Fun The Morgan Provides

via YouTube

How does it work? Well, it’s a novel contraption. Under the hood is a rather a basic layout, and the gas tank is at the back of the car. The whole piece at the back also pops off and Jay has had no issues with the car at all during his ownership. The trunk actually has plenty of space for you to go away for the weekend, but that might not be the most enjoyable car to do so on the interstates! However, Jay thinks it gives you a sense of adventure. It's simple, basic but well made and with a retro feel. Morgan is one of the longest-standing car companies in the world, and Jay loves the dedication they put into their cars.

Detachable Steering Wheel Gives The Morgan Race-Car Vibes

via YouTube

The steering wheel is detachable, and there is an aircraft-style ignition sequence to start the Morgan up. The HUD is very basic and the horn is very 1930s. But that’s exactly what the 3-wheeler is about. Down to earth, basic fun. No console, nothing. Jay has to take the car out for a drive, and it looks very bizarre among the other vehicles out and about in California.

The dark green and RAF roundels give the Morgan a distinctively British appearance and Jay says it's so much fun and allows you to have the best time. The exhaust pipe has been done in the style of an aircraft cannon, and the nose art with the shark's teeth make you feel like you are in a Spitfire or P-51 Mustang.
