Jeep, like many other car manufacturers, is looking towards a future. Their recent 4xe Day saw them reveal their upcoming electric cars as they target a zero-emission future, as we all try to do what we can to help save our planet from climate change. Jeep are looking to build upon the experience they gained with the Wrangler 4xe hybrid, a car that has become very popular in North America since its launch. As part of 4xe day, Jeep launched three new models.

The first was the Avenger, the first all-electric Jeep SUV that is set to arrive in Europe for 2023. This is a compact SUV aimed at attracting a younger and more female audience. We then had the Recon, a boxy Jeep design with cues from the Wrangler that is full of promise. Last but not least, we had the Wagoneer S. The Wagoneer S will be first electric Jeep to bear the Wagoneer name, and is set to be a premium SUV and offers quite a different design compared to the previous two models.

Everything You Need To Know About The Wagoneer S

The Wagoneer S might just be the most impressive of the three Jeeps revealed during 4xe Day. Starting off with the design, the Wagoneer S is perhaps the Jeep with the most EV style front-end of all three models. By that we mean, the way the Jeep grille has now been fully presupposed to have LED-illuminated sections between each of the seven-bars of the grille. The Wagoneer S promises great visibility and natural daylight within the cabin, with large windows and a glass roof to allow plenty of light within the new vehicle.

One of the most interesting exterior elements of the Wagoneer S is the hovering wing that spans the rear of the Jeep, just above the liftgate. This is certainly a unique interpretation of the rear wing styled above the back window, and the top-down view does give the impression that the wing is hovering above the car. Ralph Giles, designer of the Wagoneer S, has stated that the S in the name stands for speed, striking and sexy. There is certainly a sportier and sexier element to the Wagoneer S compared to the other models within the Jeep brand. The Wagoneer S also looks set to offer a lot on the performance side too.

Big Performance For A Big Jeep SUV

When it comes to the electric powertrain, Jeep has announced that they are targeting at least 600 hp with the new Wagoneer S. This, in theory, will allow the SUV to reach 0-60 mph in just 3.5 seconds, highlighting again how impressive EV acceleration is despite the Wagoneer S being quite a large vehicle. To put it into context, this is similar to the now discontinued Hellcat-powered Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk. As you might expect, the Wagoneer S will come with 4x4 capability.

This is despite Jeep not having firmly announced the outright layout of the EV architecture and the exact setup of the drivetrain within the Wagoneer S. Most likely though, the SUV will feature a dual-electric motor setup. It will have Jeep’s all-terrain management system, as well as brand-focused technology in order to differentiate it from other products within the Stellantis umbrella. A range of 400 miles is also the target with the new Wagoneer S, and we should know more details on the SUV once it's in its final production form come 2023. The name is also something that could change in the future.

Jeep has not shown us the interior of the Wagoneer S yet, but they do at least state that it will have an “elevated style”, whatever that means. That would we assume reference that this electric SUV will be more luxury focussed than that of the Recon and the Avenger. The Wagoneer S features quite boxy wheel arches with huge alloy wheels sitting within them. What helps to make the car sleeker though is the chrome accent that helps to highlight the incline of the pillars. This helps to make the Wagoneer a bit more streamlined despite its size.

An Important Car For The Future Of Jeep

The Wagoneer S might be the most interesting of the new designs coming from Jeep. It features some interesting design elements not really seen on any current Jeep, yet retains classic design features such as the seven bar grille and the relatively boxy design. But the improved daylight within the cabin and the sleeker edges show that this is a step into the future for Jeep. Electric cars have the ability to reinvent car design language, and while the Wagoneer S is not revolutionary in that respect, Jeep is at least attempting to reshape its own design language with it.
