If there’s one 4×4 off-road vehicle that consumers consider an American icon, it’s the Jeep Wrangler. Even the renowned Enzo Ferrari seemed to have been a fan, as he famously said: “The Jeep is America’s only sports car.” Most consumers are so used to seeing the Wrangler on the road that they forget that the civilian version or the YJ came around only in 1986. However, Baby Boomers will remember the American war comedy-drama television series “M*A*S*H”, where the protagonist was the 1942 Willys Military Jeep M38A1, used almost in every episode.

The same sport utility vehicle was featured in the 1964 “Goldfinger.” After that, the Jeep brand has become something like an American icon used for years in combat areas until it became a practical civilian 4×4 off-road vehicle. In the upcoming decades, the Wrangler appeared in various Hollywood productions, being driven on the roughest terrains and most unexpected adventures, and it never failed.

How many other sport utility vehicles can brag that they came close to dinosaurs, like the Wrangler in Steven Spielberg’s “Jurassic Park” (1993), chased tornadoes in “Twister" or that traveled “Back to the Future”?

Fact is that this fun to drive vehicle is always around when protagonists, heroes and normal folks want to embark on crazy adventures. Unsurprisingly, even today, the legendary Wrangler has a cult following and the distinctive body styling and “topless” look are an instant success with the public. And while the 2021 Wrangler came in last on Consumer Reports, having below-average reliability in the Annual Auto Surveys, drivers still loved the Jeep “experience.” In fact, this uncomfortable, noisy, and undependable truck can do no wrong in consumers’ eyes.

The 2022 Wrangler keeps up with tradition and remains a loud and unreliable sport utility vehicle, but fans don’t seem to care, loving everything about the rough look and retro design features. Nonetheless, the interior is quite alluring.

Let’s face it, there’s a world in-between the 2-door Wrangler Sport and the Rubicon 392, but that’s exactly what makes this legendary brand so cool. Jeep has options for every budget and style preferences. It is difficult to find another car brand that has so many engines and customization options, and most importantly, it lets you select between the two-door body style and the four-door body style.

Naturally, buyers who want extra space can select the four-door body style, while the rest can select the long-established two-door body style. Also, drivers can select their Wrangler according to engine options. For instance, the standard Sport trim comes equipped with a 3.6-liter V6 engine, which generates 285 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque and is connected to a six-speed manual transmission (standard) or an optional eight-speed automatic.

At the same time, Wrangler 4xe- the plug-in hybrid has a 2.0-liter four-cylinder paired with an electric motor and battery, which generates 375 hp and 470 lb-ft of torque. And the Wrangler Rubicon 392 has a powerful 6.4-liter V8 engine that produces 470 hp and 470 lb-ft of torque. According to Jeep, this monster can accelerate from 0 to 60 miles per hour in 4.5 seconds.

The cool cabin has various standout features. For example, the various roof designs remain the most appealing part of the Wrangler. There are two “Sunrider” soft tops manufactured from different fabrics (the standard comes in a Black waterproof cloth material and the Premium has a more elegant look being made of a thicker fabric).

The “Freedom Top,” a three-piece hardtop, which seems more high-end and lets you select between removing all three sections or just the front panels and “The Sky One-Touch Power Roof,” which is made of cloth and very easy to maneuver. By far the best feature and probably the one that made the Jeep an iconic brand is the one that lets you remove the doors, tops, and windows and fold down the windshield. This open-air concept makes driving more entertaining.

Additionally, soda-lime glass has been used for the outside of the windshield and Corning Gorilla Glass on the inside part. This glass is better adapted for rough terrains where drivers run the risk of breaking their windshield. Also, the carpet is made of a weather resistant material that is easily removed and cleaned.
