For fans and enthusiasts of Jeep’s vaunted Wrangler off-road SUV, a V8-powered version straight from the factory would be a wish come true. The clamor for a Wrangler V8 has been loud and Jeep has heard them. In response, Jeep has just unveiled a new concept that might pave way for a production Wrangler V8 – the new Jeep Wrangler Rubicon 392 Concept. Could this be Jeep's new Bronco fighter extraordinaire? Let's take a look.

Finally, A V8 Mill Inside A Wrangler

This concept is the first time that Jeep shoved in a V8 engine into a Wrangler, with the three-digit number (392) referring to the displacement of the mill, pegged at 392 cubic inches or around 6.4 liters. This massive engine -- probably a version of the HEMI V8 inside a Dodge Charger -- delivers 450 hp of max output and 450 lb.-ft. of peak torque to Dana 44 axles through an eight-speed transmission.

Engine mounts were upgraded and the frame was modified just to accommodate the larger engine and the transmission. Featuring a full-time 4x4 transfer case, the engine’s huge low-end torque permits a 3.73 gear ratio for greater off-road capability. With these stats, the Jeep Wrangler Rubicon 392 Concept can sprint from nil to 60 mph in less than five seconds.

Trail-Rated And Off-Road Ready

Adding to the concept’s off-road prowess is a Jeep Performance Parts two-inch lift kit from Mopar as well as a couple of suspension enhancements (new aluminum, monotube Fox shocks). The lift kit and 37-inch mud-terrain tires (hugging 17-inch beadlock wheels) results to 34 inches of water fording capability, 13.25 inches of ground clearance as well as improved approach, breakover and departure angles (51.6, 29.5 and 40.1 degrees, respectively).

Making the new Jeep Wrangler Rubicon 392 Concept more capable are its Tru-Lok electric front- and rear-axle locking differentials, Rubicon rock rails, steel bumpers with a Warn winch as well as a steel belly pan. Interestingly, drivers can change the roar of the SUV concept just by pressing a button, thanks to its two-mode exhaust.

Aggressive Looks Inside And Out

In terms of looks, the Jeep Wrangler Rubicon 392 Concept is wrapped in a Granite Crystal finish with a number of Bronze-accentuated parts. It features a heavy-duty raised performance hood, custom half doors and the Sky One-touch powertop. Its side panels can also be removed for a more open cabin featuring Red Rock-colored leather bolstered seats (with gold stitching) and a performance steering wheel. Are you interested in a V8-powered Wrangler?
