Porsche's iconic Carrera GT supercar seems to be having a moment. Already in 2022, two different examples on the auction website Bring a Trailer alone set new world record values. Then again, just about every make and model of collectible car seems to be having a moment—just look at Hagerty's list of the "Hottest Cars of the Pandemic" and then at the stunning in-person results fetched by Mecum, Barrett-Jackson, and more since that list came out. But even during the current craze, a little celebrity provenance still goes a long way, which helps to explain why another CGT bought new by none other than certified Porschephile Jerry Seinfeld looks set to break every world record yet again on BaT.

Arguably The Most Desirable Porsche Today

Once upon a time, the Carrera GT occupied a position that leaned more towards infamy than today, after the mid-engined V10 stunner claimed the life of Fast and Furious star Paul Walker. Then, even low mileage cars could fetch a few hundred grand when they changed hands—nothing newsworthy, to be certain. Fast forward to today, though, and the CGT might represent the single hottest flame in the scorching Porsche landscape, with more and more examples popping up for sale as owners seem to realize the opportunity to lock in huge profits before the bubble bursts. This specific Carrera GT, finished in a rather uninspired black over dark gray leather, seems a bit dull compared to the bright red one that sold for $1.9 million on BaT on January 5 of 2022, while it also has more miles on the odometer than the 250-mile example that landed at $2 million even only 13 days later.

Widowmaker V10 Mounted Amidships

The mid-mounted naturally aspirated V10 reportedly only shows 3,700 miles driven since Seinfeld purchased the car new with 30 delivery miles on the clock. Rated at 605 horsepower and 435 lb-ft of torque when new, the 5.7-liter mill revved to a screaming 8,400 RPM redline and sent power to the rear wheels only via a six-speed manual transaxle, helping to earn the "widowmaker" nickname. Both the engine and trans repeatedly received service in September 2020, including replacing the rear main seal and clutch release module.

Proof Of Seinfeld Provenance

The listing also includes plenty of documentation, from the original window sticker to the title bearing Seinfeld's name dated March 7, 2005. Bidding started with a $950,000 introductory salvo and already sits as a sizzling $1,500,000 mere minutes later, with fully 14 days remaining until the final gavel. The only question remains whether Seinfeld's name will help vaunt this Carrera GT up into the record books when that day finally comes.
