It's fair to say that the electric revolution is very much underway. Manufacturers are heading more and more towards making EVs the only types of vehicles that they produce. Just this week, Renault announced its new strategy for the upcoming few years and it is very much all-electric. And now, another car manufacturer has joined the party. Kia has launched the “Movement That Inspires” slogan, which is their brand new purpose and future strategy as they look towards the future that is very much set to be all-electric.

Kia Changes Its Name

Part of the change for the company has been that of the name. Gone are "Motors" from their name and the company is now simply called “Kia.” This is to reflect its future as they head towards electric cars. This also ties in with their new logo launched recently. The brand wants to create new and innovative mobility products, including its first dedicated BEV, which along with its design philosophy is set for a reveal soon. The company’s slogan is now “Movement that inspires,” which is aimed at reflecting the company's new purpose and plans for the future.

The company wants to popularize battery electric vehicles, or BEVs, and they aim to have seven in the Kia lineup by 2027, mirroring quite closely the moves that Renault is taking in their own electric endeavors. What will these BEVs range from? Well, Kia is hoping to introduce a few types of BEVs including SUVs, MPVs, and more including potential high-performance vehicles. Kia's first BEV will be revealed in the first quarter of 2021 and will be based upon the new E-GMP architecture. It will be a cross-over inspired design, with an impressive 500+ kilometers of range and, very importantly, a high-speed charging time of under 20 minutes. In another first, this will be Kia's first global model to bear its new name.

But that is not all that Kia is developing for the future. The company is also looking at a new range of purpose-built vehicles, or PBVs, for corporate customers. What about these then? Well, these are going to be specialized vehicles based on what Kia calls “flexible skateboard platforms” with modular bodies that are designed to meet the specific mobility needs of a broad range of clients and customers. The company is hoping that increased demand for these types of vehicles will allow for expansion in this area. Kia is really aiming to meet the needs of its customers in an increasingly changing world, and today has seen the first steps of those plans revealed.
