Earlier this week, Kia unveiled the Optima's successor, the K5 and it features Stinger like lines, a new all-wheel-drive option, and tons of new tech. Now, more details were released regarding the prices, equipment, trim levels, and engines for this new mid-size sedan that aims to steal some sales from the Toyota Camry and Honda Accord. The K5 is built on Kia's and Hyundai's new N3 platform, allowing the K5 to be longer, wider, and lower than the outgoing Optima while only receiving a small price bump ($100 more).

What's New?

The front end of the K5 features what Kia calls a ''tiger face'', which refers to the new grille that extends continuously into the narrow headlights and the hood, while in the back, the taillights span across the rear, giving it a sporty look.

When you move inside the K5, you'll find a completely redesigned interior with polished lines and high-quality materials. Tons of new tech and comfort features will be available in the standard K5, while things such as leather seats, bigger infotainment screen, and adaptive cruise control will be offered on higher-end trims.

The K5 LX has an MSRP of $24,445, including destination fee, which is just $100 more than the 2020 Optima and $1,000 less than the Toyota Camry SE. The LX model will come standard with LED headlights, an 8-inch infotainment system with wireless CarPlay and Android Auto, dual-zone climate control, forward collision warning, lane-keeping assist, and automatic high beams.

Starting at $25,445, the LXS adds more features like blind-spot monitoring, pushbutton start, and rear traffic alert. This trim is similar to the GT-Line that starts at $26,355 and adds a more sportive looking styling.

The EX trim ($28,955) adds more options, such as full-leatherette seats, heated and cooled front seats, satellite radio, parking sensors, and wireless charger. In this trim, for an extra $3,400, you can add the premium package, which includes a heated steering wheel, a bigger 10.2-inch infotainment screen, Bose audio system, adaptive cruise control, and many other features. The LX, LXS, EX, and GT-Line are powered by a 1.6-liter turbo l4 with 180 horsepower combined with an eight-speed automatic transmission. All-wheel drive is optional on the LXS and GT-Line trims.

The biggest news regarding the new K5 is that it has a performance-minded GT trim, sporting a 2.5L turbo inline 4, with 290 hp and an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission. Kia claims a 0-60 mph time of 5.8 seconds. This trim, which is the most equipped and expensive ($31,455) is FWD only. You should expect the new Kia K5 to hit dealerships this summer.
