Every now and then, creative tuners set about to transform the 13-year old Nissan R35 GT-R supercar into something wilder than the regular Godzilla. Perhaps the wildest of these Nissan GT-Rs is this eccentric wing-covered black Godzilla of Scribante Racing, with 1,600 hp of max output. What is it and why is it festooned with multiple wings? Let’s take a closer look.

A Real-World Racer

At first glance, this Scribante creation doesn’t look like the real thing. You may think this is just a beautiful graphic rendering, as it’s too wild to be real. Sorry to burst your bubbles, but this is a real-world R35 GTR meant to conquer hill climbs. Scribante commenced the ultimate GT-R project in 2019, tapping Dodson Motorsport for the GT chassis and Sammy Diasinos of Dynamic Aero Solutions (DAS) for the car’s aero works. Dodson’s 4130 chromoly chassis was modified to suit hill climbs and circuit races.

Massive Aero, Huge Downforce

Diasinos, meanwhile, lent his expertise in designing the GT-R’s aero package. Up front, the GT-R featured a DAS carbon fiber splitter and borrowed the Simon McBeath dual-element carbon wing of Scribante’s Porsche racer.

The GT-R’s rear section dons a triple-element swan-necked rear wing from DAS and the carbon fiber diffuser of the Scribante Porsche. Massive end plates were installed for cornering stability. As a result, the Scribante GT-R generates 1,212 lbs. (550 kg) of minimum downforce per wheel at 174 mph (280 km/h).

The exterior isn't the only thing wild with Scribante’s GT-R, but also its VR38DETT engine. Tuning includes the installation of a pair of Garrett GTX3582R Gen II turbochargers, a PWR intercooler, a MoTeC M150 ECU and various modifications. As tuned by Marco, the GT-R’s VR38DETT engine can now rev up to 8,500 rpm and deliver 1,600 hp of max output with 1,070 lb.-ft. of peak torque.

Linked to a GR6 transmission, the mill is supported by Öhlins Racing front dampers with a rear inboard setup. Other upgrades include a custom carbon fiber bonnet with rear vents and 18-inch BC Forged center-lock wheels shod with hill climb-specific super-soft tires, as well as interior setups.

This monster participated in the 2019 Simola Hillclimb, setting a new record and clinching the overall crown! It was going for another shot this year, but the event was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It's eyeing several events later this year, so let's hope they don't get nixed as well.
