First launched in 2011, the Koenigsegg Agera project has been one of the most remarkable automotive feats of the last decade. A later variation of the model would go on to break production car speed world record, besting the infamous Bugatti Veyron.

And yet, just when you thought Koenigsegg couldn't get any more extravagant, along comes the RS1. As a variation of the RS model, it came with additional trappings that skyrocketed the value of the original car - thanks to one ambitious, deep-pocketed customer.

Updated November 2022: Koenigsegg Agera RS1 has a special seat at the table of the world's most amazing bespoke supercars. That's why we've updated this article to give you more tidbits about this incredible and rare supercar from one of Sweden's finest automaker, Koenigsegg.

But, what exactly does the RS1 have to justify a reported price tag of $10 million USD? To answer this question, we must deep-dive underneath the hood, and inside the cockpit, as its value is the sum of months of fine-tuning, which led to the ultimate supercar modification.

The reason the RS1 is so unique is primarily down to it being a customer specification. In fact, the RS1 name even came from the current owner, dubbed so for its megawatt package - but more on that later. The Koenigsegg Agera RS is a remarkably rare car in its own right, with just 25 models making it out of the factory in Sweden. With almost all car parts assembled in-house, its one of the most breathtakingly precise supercars you're ever likely to come across. And yet, for one owner, the RS in and of itself wasn't quite enough.

Supplementary features are all over the car, from its paint job, to the paneling, and even under the hood itself. It's also draped in one very special material. As car guru Doug DeMuro states, the RS1 is "the most carbon fiber intensive car in existence." It even has carbon fiber wheels, something else you won't see very often.

In strictly performance terms, the real reason the RS1 stands out among its peers is due to an insane add-on package that bolsters its already frightening speed metrics. The 1 Megawatt add-on, which costs an extra $270,000 on top of the Agera RS' original price, takes the car to dizzying new heights. The RS1 generates a staggering 1360 hp and 1,011 lb-ft of torque with the spec, taking the car from rest to 62 miles in just 2.8 seconds.

Only a few Ageras in the U.S. have the megawatt package, as the model without the add-on is still a ferociously powerful supercar. But, the RS1, for this very reason, is incredibly exclusive. For, even if you can't always harness 1360 hp, it's nice to know it's there. Also, if the owner does ever want to take it out on the track or the dragstrip, he'll be able to go just about as quick as any human has ever gone in a production car - with its world record top speed of 280 mph.

Despite the monstrously powerful engine in the rear, the Agera RS1 still manages to maintain its lightweight frame. As was previously mentioned, this is partially due to the insane amount of carbon fiber littered around the car. What it means for the driving experience, is that you have a car designed for the dragstrip, that can still very much hold its own around the track.

The RS1 weighs just 2844 lbs, which, in conjunction with the front and rear double-wishbone suspension, allows it to sustain 1.8 g lateral grip through the corners. It's a complete machine, with every detail tailored towards making it the ultimate, immersive driving experience. This is evident through the driver seat set-up, where you have a choice between automatic gear changes or panel shifters.

However, for all of the marginal performance gains, what really makes it stand out is the custom design. Notably, the owner we mention earlier, along with his so coined the design as well as the 'RS1' name of the supercar, and according to Koenigsegg, they also intensely and assiduously participated in the supercar's entire specification and build process.

On the exterior, the supercar was finished in Arctic White which is then contrasted beautifully by a central black stripe - a one-off look for a one-off car. Trimmings of a carefully selected shade of blue can also be seen on the hood and bumper, a hint at what greets you on the inside of the car. It's a look that is sure to leave a distinct impression on all who see it.

The interior is similarly bespoke. Alcántara panels and stitching welcomes you into the cabin. It's an environment that almost mimics the inside of a racing driver's cockpit, as the effervescent color scheme is not something you'd normally see in a production car. The blue leather combines perfectly with the black carbon fiber on the dashboard, which once again reminds the driver of just how "racey" this machine is.

Overall, the RS1 is a stunning upgrade. To take a car as perfect as the Agera, and somehow find areas in which to improve is commendable. It's an engineering feat that once again highlights Koenigsegg's incredible prowess - a Frankenstein's monster level of a supercar.
