Kyle Busch, the celebrated 2019 NASCAR Cup Series regular season champion and 2019 Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series winner, added another trophy to his collection this year. But it doesn't involve race cars. Busch gained the WWE 24/7 Championship through a cleverly planned assault against the reigning champ, although it didn’t take quite long for him to lose the belt.

3 Championship Week

Busch of Joe Gibson Racing was actually in Nashville, Tennessee for NASCAR Championship Week. He was set to be awarded the top man of the 2019 Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series. In addition, he just became one of two active Cup Series drivers grabbing more than one Championship.

But before formally receiving the Cup Series Championship award, Busch had a sinister plan -- get a shot at the WWE 24/7 Championship. To do that, he needed a WWE referee in tow, and two-time Daytona 500 champ Michael Waltrip became the accomplice.

During the December 2 broadcast of WWE's Monday Night Raw, 24/7 Champion Ron "R-Truth" Killings entered the arena and managed to avoid the Superstars challengers by hiding in front of Busch and Waltrip. But R-Truth never had an inkling that these two men had a scheme behind their friendly facade.

While R-Truth was thanking Busch and Waltrip for their assistance, the current NASCAR FOX Television analyst suddenly unzipped his jacket, thereby revealing a referee uniform. Then Busch rolled R-Truth up from behind and pinned the professional wrestler on the ground. After a count of three from Waltrip, Busch became the 24/7 Champion.

Too bad for Busch, R-Truth was bent on recovering the WWE 24/7 belt. Too busy taking a selfie to notice the WWE wrestler approaching, Busch was blindsided and pinned down by R-Truth. After just an hour, R-Truth was back as champ. Busch, on the other hand, never got the chance to receive the NASCAR Cup Series award while wearing the 24/7 Championship belt.

At least, Busch will still get to celebrate being this year’s NASCAR champ.
