No one would think that the Lamborghini Aventador SV Roadster is a slow machine. Well, if a 0-60 mph sprint time of 2.8 seconds and a top speed of 217 mph sounds slow to you, perhaps you need to recalibrate your real-world standards.

Honestly, I want to see how a Lamborghini Aventador SV Roadster would really perform in the real world, not just in a hypothetical universe. No worries though, because Johnny Bohmer Proving Grounds is here to help us with that.

Straight-Line Test Done By Experts

Johnny Bohmer is known for doing Straight Line Aerodynamic Testing on a three-mile long ultra-flat concrete runway in Merritt Island, Florida (once used by NASA’s Space Shuttle). Tests are done in various distances -- half-mile, 1 mile, 1.5 miles, 2 miles, 2.3 miles, 2.5 miles and 2.7 miles. Employing Garmin and Racelogic interior monitoring systems, Johnny Bohmer can fact-check manufacturer performance claims.

With an established fact-checker like Johnny Bohmer in existence, there is a way to know whether a vehicle can actually go as fast as 300 mph (a Bugatti Chiron derivative did in a recorded session). But on this instance, Johnny Bohmer actually brought a 2016 Lamborghini Aventador SV Roadster to its runway.

The Lamborghini Aventador SV Roadster that Johnny Bohmer tested is powered by a 6.5-liter naturally aspirated V12 engine that delivers 740 hp of max output and 507 lb.-ft. of torque. Power is sent to all wheels through a single-clutch seven-speed automatic transmission.

While Johnny Bohmer uses a runway that measures 3.22 miles in length (with a width of 300 feet), the test done on the Aventador SV Roadster was only good for half a mile. This won't be enough for us to see if the car’s claimed top speed of 217 mph can actually be reached.

Real-World Half-Mile Top Speed

Right at the start of the test, the sudden acceleration lets the Lamborghini Aventador SV Roadster register 1.0g on the accelerometer. Officially, the Aventador SV Roadster managed to reach 159.28 mph during the half-mile test. That’s insane!

However, this half-mile pass is enough for us to get a first-hand look at the real-world visceral sprint prowess. Think of it, there is a small chance that I could go full speed on a highway without road traffic for a mile. So, finding out how fast this Lambo can go in half a mile seems to be a practical choice.
