Supercar manufacturers have clearly come to realize over the past few years that the more exclusive and expensive they make their cars, the more customers will line up to drop gobs of cash on their new toys. Nobody is better than this at Bugatti, especially with all the absurdly expensive variants of the Chiron, though another Volkswagen AG subsidiary, Lamborghini, looks to be getting into the game, as well. As part of the recent announcement that Lambo will be launching a video conferencing version of the Ad Personam studio design package, the Italian automaker has also unveiled a limited run of only 10 Aventador SVJ Xago special editions.

For the dreadfully uninformed gearheads out there, Lamborghini goes right ahead and explains that the Xago name comes in honor of the "hexagon cloud shapes at the North Pole on the planet Saturn," as if anyone didn't know that immediately. Clients interested in booking an opportunity to purchase one of the 10 vehicles can do so through the Ad Personam program, which Lamborghini is expanding in 2020 after launching back in 2013 and opening the in-person studio visit system back in 2016. Apparently, more than half of all Lamborghini orders now leave the factory with at least one Ad Personam detail optioned, a number that has tripled in the last three years.

More Special Than Special

Obviously, Lamborghini's move comes amid a global economic slowdown due to coronavirus shutdowns that hit hard in Italy without sparing the automotive industry. Referring to the current climate among the company's clients, Giovanni Perosino, Chief Commercial Officer of Automobili Lamborghini, said “Lamborghini is always thinking dynamically about the best solutions to challenges, and our new virtual Ad Personam studio consultations have been carefully devised to support clients who, in times where we are all cautious about international travel, still want the special, one-to-one experience of creating an entirely personalized car." The program may be launching this year, but Lamborghini expects to keep it running for the foreseeable future.
