Although it's Mitja Borkert heading design at Lamborghini, it's Stephan Winkelmann who gives every design the green light, which is why we've seen some of the most outlandish concepts and production models from Lamborghini - and the new Huracan Sterrarto, the brand's first off-road supercar, is one of them.

Lamborghini continues to break new ground in what it's best at - and this time, they are taking a supercar to places where no road-going equivalent can venture: on to dirt trails, and through shallow river beds!

The concept of making it an off-road supercar also reveals a more practical side of the Huracan - even if it is to drive it on the road, its higher ground clearance will be hugely beneficial. But this brings us to the point of this topic: with the Hurcacan Sterrato, Lamborghini has started a revolution - and one that might turn out to be so popular, that the idea of producing just 1499 examples might have to change.

The Lamborghini Huracan Sterrato has been in the works for quite a few years, with images and videos of the car being spotted a few months ago. It's finally here, and not too much later, Porsche introduces the 911 Dakar sports car, which had been kept a total secret until recently.

The Huracan Sterrato has started something huge: the beginning of the production of the off-road supercar. Yes, there have been 911s and custom-made sports cars built to tackle the rough, but those were one-offs; the Sterrato is not.

The Porsche 911 (953) Paris-Dakar, Lancia Stratos and the more recent, Singer ACS, are some of the examples we can think of at this point. All of them are iconic in their own way, built to deal with soil and the road, both.

But the Huracan Sterrato is the first of its kind, and it's not like an Ariel Nomad, although the Nomad too, has its own distinct character. The Sterrato is partly the same Huracan the world has come to love, but with added capabilities and badass appeal.

Unique to the Sterrato are its driving dynamics that have been tuned to cope with all kinds of environments, plus an updated version of the Lamborghini Integrated Vehicle Dynamics system, with Strada and Sport calibrations that are specific to the Sterrato, and of course, 'Rally' mode.

A rally car that's fun, fast and loud, you bet. The increased ground clearance of 44mm, compared to the Huracan Evo's +30mm up-front and +34mm at the rear, will let drivers tackle bumps and uneven terrain without breaking into a sweat.

The Huracan Sterrato is powered by the standard Huracan's 5.2-liter V10 engine that pushes out 602hp and 413 lb-ft of torque, paired to a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission, with all the power being sent through an electronically controlled all-wheel drive system with a rear mechanical self-locking differential.

It can accelerate from 0-62mph in 3.4 seconds, and manages a top speed of 160mph. That means it is the slowest Lamborghini on sale today. The 19-inch rims you see, come exclusively with custom-built Bridgestone Dueler AT002 tires, giving the Sterrato the best possible ability to adapt to various conditions and surfaces while keeping the fun and emotion intact.

All very adventure-centric.

The Sterrato gets on-board services like Lamborghini Connect, which includes integration with Amazon Alexa to adjust car features like air conditioning and lighting, control the navigation, entertainment and phone calls with a simple voice command.

This offroad supercar can be remotely controlled through the Lamborghini UNICA app with remote speed monitoring. It also features connected telemetry system which lets the driver monitor performance and analyze the data through the app.

The Lamborghini Drive Recorder records experiences at the wheel, which basically means the driver can record the most fun moments while driving. Customers of the car can customize their Sterrato the way they want. They get to choose from 350 exterior colors and more than 60 colors for the cockpit.
