Lamborghini has unveiled the "Direzione Cor Tauri" roadmap to address decarbonization and phased electrification of their cars. The Italian manufacturer will begin to take the first steps in this direction already in 2023. And in the second half of the decade, the company promises to present the first all-electric model.

Lamborghini Announces Electrification Roadmap

According to Lamborghini, the name of the Direzione Cor Tauri strategy has deep symbolism. First, the Latin Cor Tauri is translated as "the heart of a bull." Secondly, the brightest star in the constellation Taurus bears the same name, which together should demonstrate the company's desire for an electrified future while remaining faithful to the spirit of the brand.

The plan does not provide for a complete abandonment of internal combustion engines, at least not yet. And its implementation is divided into three stages.

The first will begin to be implemented in 2021-2022, and it concerns the development of internal combustion engines for homage models dedicated to the history of the company or iconic cars of the past. Moreover, two such cars will be presented before the end of 2021.

The next step is hybrids. The first mass gas-electric Lamborghini will appear in 2023. And by the end of 2024, the entire range will be partly electrified. This will be possible thanks to the investment of €1.5 billion (around $1.8 billion). This is the largest investment in the history of Lamborghini. The priority goal by 2025 is to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 50 percent.

The third, culminating phase is planned for the middle of the decade. At that moment, the first all-electric model will appear in the Italians' lineup. Presumably, they are talking about a four-seater coupe, but the final decision on the car has not yet been made. However, Stephan Winkelmann, president and CEO of Automobili Lamborghini, expects the electric Lambo to be sold as successfully as the Urus. The crossover, by the way, accounts for more than half of the brand's global sales.

Winkelmann called the advantages of hybridization not only a decrease in the volume of harmful emissions but also an increase in dynamic characteristics. At the same time, it was noted that the additional weight that will be provoked by the emergence of batteries in the design of supercars will be offset by the expanded use of ultra-light materials.
