Whenever you think of any car from Lamborghini, you think of pure, raw performance and mad power—not to mention those insanely styled cars. It's just what we have come to expect from them. However, things are set to change slightly. A report from Car Advice in Australia has quoted the new boss of Lamborghini Asia Pacific, Francesco Scardaoni, telling the media that the brand is now considering handling and dynamics the key factor in how good a car is, referencing the Huracan STO as an example.

Acceleration Is No Longer A Main Barometer

Scardaoni was quoted as saying, “If you go back to 10 years ago, probably when we were asked the parameters to measure a car with we would say top speed, acceleration and [then] handling Scardaoni. Then top speed became a secondary measure, acceleration the first one. Now basically [with electrification] acceleration is no more than important. Because it’s quite easy for that kind of power unit to have amazing results in acceleration.” Scardaoni is referencing the likes of the Tesla Model S Plaid, which can go from 0-60 in a frankly ludicrous 2.1 seconds.

Beating The Acceleration Of EVs May Never Be A Concern

Acceleration comes much quicker in an electric car thanks to the maximum torque being available instantly at all times, which helps them to attain those ridiculously fast acceleration times. Drag races have shown how easily Teslas can outrace a Lamborghini off the line, even if the latter then does draw the EV in and ultimately pull ahead. Despite this though, Scardaoni believes that the simple facts of acceleration are just one part of the equation when it comes to deciding how good a car is.

Driveability Is Making A Huge Difference

He adds that “What is really now making the difference is the drivability of the car, the handling,” he said. “Because when you have good acceleration but the car is heavy to steer, heavy to handle, you cannot have that pleasure of driving in a really fast way. For sure now, handling in our opinion, is one of the top priorities for a manufacturer, especially a manufacturer like Lamborghini”. He has reaffirmed that handling is “is top number one priority” for the company, which includes cars such as the Huracan STO. So whilst acceleration times may not get quicker for cars like the STO, the driving experience may improve dramatically.
