Just hours after Mercedes released news of its AMG GT barely eclipsing the Nurburgring record Lamborghini set over two years ago, Lamborghini has released the Huracan STO, a homologation special that sounds capable of snatching the record back. The Huracan GT3 car has actually won the last three runnings of the 24 hours at Daytona and this car clearly takes multiple chapters out of that book. Lamborghini didn't just create a new Huracan that kinda sorta looks a bit different – this thing has tons of unique parts and a more aggressive driving prowess.

This New Lamborghini Was Bred At The Racetrack

STO stands for Super Trofeo Omologata, or in simple terms, a true homologation road car designed to be as close to the racing counterpart as possible to comply with the rules set out by a racing series. In this case, that means the Huracan needed many new features like the "Cofango", a full one-piece front clip. The entire hood, front bumper, and fenders are all one single piece of carbon fiber to allow for easier work on the components underneath.

New air intakes and ducting channel air more precisely around the car and into the V10 that peaks at 630 horsepower, all of which is sent to the back wheels alone. The aero ultimately makes this car more than 37% more efficient as it flies through the air and creates more than 50% more downforce than the blisteringly fast Huracan Performante.

The inclusion of new carbon fiber technology has also allowed Lamborghini to put this Huracan on a serious diet. It's down nearly 100 pounds over the Performante and still manages to maintain the same or better torsional strength. The interior follows the same format of minimalism and speed. Even the floormats standing in for carpet that's been removed are carbon fiber. Clearly, Lamborghini has no plans of slowing down any time soon.
