Lamborghini makes some of the fastest supercars in the world. The quickest Lamborghini that is currently in production is the Huracan EVO, a car that has 640 hp. However, the EV revolution is on the way and electric cars are now mighty fast.

The Tesla Model X Plaid is one such car with 1,020 hp. Brooks Weisblat of DragTimes has taken his personal Huracan EVO and pitched it against a Model X Plaid to see just how fast the electric SUV actually is.

Not Quite An Unfair Fight

While the Model X Plaid has a lot more power than the Huracan, it also weighs a lot more. Weisblat says that the Model X Plaid weighs in at 5,390 lbs while the Huracan EVO weighs in at 3,530 lbs. That’s a big difference and should help the Huracan out quite a lot. The Model X power-to-weight ratio is thus 5.3 lbs per hp, compared to the 5.5 of the Huracan EVO.

Can the 5.2-liter V10 engine of the Huracan beat the EV? Well, race one goes as you might expect. Weisblat launches the Model X off the line to cruise to a winning time of 9.903 seconds.

This very much means that the Huracan EVO is out for a bit of revenge against the Tesla. The Tesla might be running out of charge, but it still easily gets the measure of the Lamborghini in the second race. This time, Weisblat went even faster with a run time of 9.837 seconds and a top speed of 144.44 mph. This compared to a still very good 10.823 seconds run for the Lamborghini with a top speed of 130.57 mph.

Why The Lamborghini Could Not Win A Race

Many will probably still be quite surprised that the Tesla won both races despite the Huracan getting a jump, and weighing less. Simply put, it's because the Tesla is able to put all that power down in almost an instant and not lose too much traction.

The Huracan meanwhile can spin its tires up and bog down, and this gives the Tesla an easy win in both races. And while horsepower doesn’t always mean a race win, it's impossible to compete with around 400 hp more, no matter what the two cars are. These races highlight just how fast Tesla EVs are.
