Does the Lamborghini Urus have the stuff to take down a Ferrari 458 Speciale?

On paper, this doesn’t really look good for the Urus. Don’t get us wrong, we love the Urus. It’s the fastest, most insane SUV to ever walk the Earth. Lamborghini created something truly special when they birthed their 4.0-L twin-turbo V8-powered monster, and they deserve all the praise (and more importantly, money) they’ve received from its inception.

But it’s got a big hill to climb if it wants to take out a genuine supercar. The Urus makes plenty of power with 641 hp and 627 lb-ft, but it also weighs close to 5,000 lbs. Meanwhile, the Ferrari 458 Speciale is closer to 3,300 lbs thanks to extensive carbon fiber construction and not needing to haul around an extra row of seats.

On top of that, this Ferrari 458 Speciale is even more speciale. It’s been given a new exhaust, new headers, and a full tune. It still has the same 4.5-L naturally aspirated V8, but it probably produces even more than the 597 hp it was born with.

About the only advantage the Urus has is the fact that it’s all-wheel-drive. This will help it launch at a sprint, but the 458 will definitely have a better top end.

In the first race, we see the Lamborghini Urus launch off the line at a fantastic pace and even put several car lengths between it and the Ferrari. But then the Ferrari starts to catch up and eventually overtake the Urus just before the finish line. It’s extremely close though, which makes us think the Urus might actually have a shot.

Our second race is a bit of a blowout for the Urus. We’re not sure how, but the 458 didn’t catch a red light on that launch and it just flew past the Urus for the entire quarter-mile. Even still, the final numbers reveal that these vehicles are more closely matched than they appear.

It’s the third race that is the decider. You’ll have to check out the video above to see if the Urus can actually pull it off.
