If you’re an avid auto enthusiast who dreams of owning a supercar, chances are the name Lamborghini is there in your books. Famously known for making some of the best-looking exotic machinery on four wheels, Lamborghini is more than just art, it’s an emotion, a visual treat that many yearn to experience.

Due to their exotic nature and astronomical price tags, most Lamborghinis are things of desire for many. Speaking of desirable Lamborghinis, we have their most successful model now, the Urus. Accessible to the general public as the most affordable Lamborghini, the Urus retails at just a touch over $218,000. Not sure in what world that’s called affordable but here we are with a 650 horsepower super SUV kitted with all the latest and greatest from Sant’Agata Bolognese.

It’s been a couple of years since the Urus debuted and surprisingly, Lambo’s super SUV seems to hold its value pretty decently. With depreciation not taking a serious toll, the Urus has left the used car market in awe, especially considering it’s a series-production road car.

The Lamborghini Urus: A Brief

Performance Drive

The Lamborghini Urus debuted in 2018 as the brand’s first-ever turbocharged super-SUV. Although the LM002 preceded the Urus as Lamborghini’s first-ever SUV, it came with a V12 from the Countach. The Urus is based on VAG’s MLB evo platform shared with the Audi Q8, Bentley Bentayga, and Porsche Cayenne. However, Lamborghini has done their bits to it and the Urus turns out to be the most powerful out of all its siblings. Rated at 650 horsepower and 627 lb-ft of torque, the Urus is a very capable utilitarian although not in the traditional aspect. Lamborghini positioned the Urus as the most capable road-going SUV and not a full-fledged off-roader as the LM002.

Performance Drive

That said, Lamborghini claims the Urus is better than most soft-roaders off-road. Performance-wise, the Urus is capable of hitting 0-60 mph in 3.6 seconds, staggering numbers for a near 5000-pound SUV. The Urus was in fact the fastest SUV in the world with a top speed of 189 mph until the Bentley Bentayga Speed came about and took the title by 1 mph. That said, various testers have reached 190 mph in the Urus, so we’ll leave it at that. Everything else is just as great with practicality being emphasized thanks to bigger luggage space and the ability to seat 5, not something common, especially for a Lamborghini.

Lamborghini Urus: Let’s Talk Values And Depreciation

motor1.com

Of the available cars on the used market, the average price you’d pay for a used Lamborghini Urus is around $254,000. As pointed out by Fourwheeltrader, high mileage examples of the Urus are available around the $220,000 mark. On average, the Lamborghini Urus depreciates $17,600 per year. First-year depreciation stands at $34,000 followed by $14,000 the year after. For comparison, a Bentley Bentayga V8 depreciates $29,500 per year on average while the Porsche Cayenne Turbo loses $32,000 per year. First-year depreciation for the Bentayga is a staggering $42,000, although it was expected for a $200,000 SUV.

If we were to factor in depreciation per thousand miles, the Urus loses $1,400 while the Bentayga is standing at $2,400 per thousand miles, almost double. It should be noted that the depreciation per thousand miles has a trend and generally, the rates fall lesser for higher mileage and higher for low mileage cars. To summarise, the Urus is far better than the Bentayga in terms of depreciation and offers much better residuals if you’re in the market to sell one. On the contrary, if you’re looking to buy a used Lamborghini Urus, we’d suggest you thought and wait out for a couple more years. Since Lamborghini is bound to bring about a facelift in the near future, many owners would trade-in and that should see a lot more examples hitting the market; leading to a drop in price.

Lamborghini Urus: Hardly Any In The Used Car Market

There are not many examples available in the current market. Lamborghini has played it rather well as they’ve kept the demand high and supply low. This ensures existing cars gaining good residuals whilst not over-saturating the market. Whoever is planning to get out of an Urus there’s no better time as values are strong and the market is welcoming. The popularity of the SUV could decline once the facelift is revealed or when Ferrari launches the much-waited Purosangue SUV.

Of the available models, prices vary from anywhere between $219,000 to $290,000. This solely boils down to the model year and miles on the odometer. Also, if you’ve specced a decent example, expect a premium for the amount of added kit. In general, it’s hard to find an Urus for less than $200,000, and most examples have at least $20,000 to $30,000 worth of options ticked.
