As we all know already, the future of supercars is electric and almost all the main supercar makers already revealed their plans for electrifying their respective models and lineups.

Ferrari already has hybrid tech in use and Lamborghini will be bringing to market a V12 hybrid ahead of a fully-electric model. YouTube channel and super-spy-photographer Varryx is usually on-hand to document the testing of supercar prototypes and mules, today he has pictures of a Lamborghini prototype.

This is could be the successor to the current Aventador, Lamborghini’s flagship, and there are a few interesting things going on with the design. Let's take a look.

The New Lamborghini Supercar Caught On The Road During Testing

It’s just a mule, which is why it isn’t covered in the usual perplexing print of zebra-like black and white padding, so we can get a better look at what’s going on and what’s new. Touted as coming with up to 1,000 hp and coming with a hybrid-V12 engine, the Aventador replacement will be a big deal for the Italian supercar brand.

According to Varryx, there’s an Aventador SVJ front bumper, and the normal rear exhausts are fake tips.

What’s actually going on is happening inside a custom engine bay with real exhaust tips protruding above the fake ones, and the hybrid powertrain gets shown off quite clearly via yellow "high voltage" pictograms. Lamborghini wants to create a buzz around the upcoming hybrid car as they need it to sell well when it eventually releases.

An Electric Lamborghini Supercar Is Coming Soon

Ferrari and Lamborghini already have SUVs like the Purosangue and Urus, Ferrari’s 296 GTB has a hybrid powertrain, and Lamborghini also has the upcoming off-road-friendly Huracán Sterrato, so this hybrid car isn’t likely to shock the automotive world.

What will be welcome to the Lamborghini lineup is the increased power and torque of the new powertrain, along with a possible electric-only range that will be useful in some situations.

There’s no such thing as an environmentally-friendly V12 per se, but the prototype has us excited about the prospect of an electrified Lamborghini Aventador.

A new chapter is coming, from a company that doesn’t stop pushing boundaries while staying true to the crazy ethos that always made them an impressive force in the automotive world. Unfortunately, if you don’t innovate in the electric changeover, you will get left behind.
