Lamborghini has had a history of outrageous cars ever since they forayed from tractors into cars. This mental attitude is what sets them apart from the rest of the modern hi-tech competition. It is actually ironic that Lambos looks 20 years ahead of time, but still packs naturally aspirated V12s (that's slowly changing with a mild-hybrid tech coming in with the Lamborghini Sian FKP 37).

But among all this buzz, Lamborghini treated itself to something bold, even by 'Lamborghini' standards. The Lamborghini Veneno looked unreal to exist and be out on public roads, and only 3 of them were ever made, yes only 3! It was based on the Aventador LP700-4 and was unveiled at the 2013 Geneva Auto Show. As elusive and extremely rare as the Veneno is, Lamborghini's surprise wasn't done there.

Come on! 50th birthdays are far more special to end on such a subtle note for Lambo. So, they came up with the Veneno Roadster, but unlike 3 units of its hard-top brother, the Roadster was dialed up to 9 units, which was, for the record, still extremely exclusive. The mind-boggling perk of the Veneno is its insane aerodynamics. And it pops your eyes, even more, when the roof is off.

This roofless Lambo is a racecar in disguise limited to just 9 units and does 0-62 mph in 2.9 seconds.

3 Venenos And 9 Roofless Venenos; It Sure Was A Fun 50th Birthday For Lamborghini

Lamborghini Veneno was pitched in to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Italian automaker. 50 years of making mad cars could only have been complemented with a car that was their most outrageous yet, and the Veneno ticked all those boxes. Initially, the coupe model was released which was extremely rate at just 3 units.

Then the Veneno Roadster came into being with 9 units to grab out for. Both the coupe and roadster shared all the same aspects except for the roof and differentiating c-pillar construction. For the record, the roadster wasn't offered even with an optional roof also, it was a truly roofless car!

The Lamborghini Veneno Roadster is powered by the same 6.5L Naturally Aspirated V12 motor that is used in the Lamborghini Aventador but has been bumped up to 750 hp for added grunt to match its insane looks. It is mated to an ISR transmission with 5 distinctive modes to give you an immersive driving experience.

It powered all four wheels via an adaptive AWD system. The monocoque chassis is derived from the Aventador's but Lambo has gone all-in by reinforcing it with carbon fiber. This has resulted in the Veneno Roadster weighing in at just 3,278 lbs. which inturns puts forth a power-to-weight ratio of just 4.38.

All of that weight saving and usage of exclusive lightweight materials has funneled down to one thing - insane acceleration, top speed, and handling dynamics. The Lamborghini Veneno Roadster with no roof does 0-60 mph in just 2.9 seconds and has a top speed of 221 mph. Most aerodynamically efficient cars with a roof struggle to reach these numbers, and here we have a Lambo with no roof making it look like child's play.

Well, the engine is just one variable of this adrenaline-pumping equation and the rest is pure aerodynamics. The enhanced racing chassis coupled with push-rod suspension and horizontal damper units gives you all the confidence to ride this ultra-exclusive 'alien' with ease. Even the brakes are optimized for weight-saving as those are carbon-ceramics for shaving off pounds and reducing brake fade under aggressive driving.

This car is all about aerodynamics. It sure gets carbon fiber body panels and race-specced chassis, but the roots are still embedded in the Aventador. The main differentiating factor lies in its intricate aerodynamic appeal which will leave you dumb-struck. Every exterior panel has been made with airflow and downforce in mind. The front splitter is as large as the adjustable rear wing and provides an insane amount of downforce.

Lamborghini has fused the aerodynamic efficiency of a prototype racecar onto the Veneno line-up. It stands out notably on the roofless Veneno Roadster. Every sharp and seemingly outlandish design cue is there for a purpose, the purpose of aerodynamic efficiency. The unique rear fin and spoiler design are taken right out of the motorsports experience.

The interior layout of Lamborghinis is never subtle. The Veneno Roadster adds an extra layer of drama to the already spaceship-vibed interior layout with the roofless appeal. You still get the fighter jet-inspired Start/Stop button, a cool Alcantara-clad steering wheel with sleek aluminum paddle shifters. The interior follows a black layout with blood-red accents that adds to its sinister appeal.

The interior is also laden with carbon fiber including the patented Forged composite wheels from Lamborghini. The LMP-inspired dorsal fin starts right from behind the cockpit and adds to a connected experience of the car's insane design language. The door windows are also distinctively cut and shaped for better air flow.

There is nothing 'normal' about the exterior design language of the Lamborghini Veneno Roadster. Everything is angled and sharp here, and there are barely any curves. The distinctive Y-shaped headlamps add a sinister layer to this devilish car. Coming to the rear, the exhaust pipes exit symmetrically in four keeping aerodynamic efficiency in mind. Veneno Roadster also came in an exclusive exterior color - Rosso Veneno with matching alloy wheels.
