Mitsubishi UK is closing down its activities in the country and on this occasion, it has arranged a sale of the collection of iconic cars. The star of the event turned out to be an old sedan. This sedan is the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VI Tommi Makinen Edition. As it is said in the official Mitsubishi press release, the sold car is the most expensive Evo ever sold at auction.

For the sports sedan, they paid 100,100 pounds (almost 140,000 dollars). This is 1,100 pounds higher than the previous price record. Another record was set by a functional but a little bit scaled-down replica of the 1917 Mitsubishi Model A, the first car in the company's history. It was sold for 13,700 pounds (about 19,000 dollars). This is undoubtedly a world record for 7/10 scale Mitsubishi Model A models.

Next on the list is an Evolution IX MR FQ-360, of which only 200 units were made. It has reached 68,900 pounds (about 95,700 dollars). Curiously, an even more limited model Lancer Evolution X FQ-440 MR of which only 40 units were made has ended up being sold slightly cheaper - 58,100 pounds (almost 81,000 dollars at the current exchange rate).

Besides these ones, the most expensive cars sold at the auction were the Mitsubishi Starion 1988 and Mitsubishi 3000GT released in 1992. The first one was sold for 21,100 pounds (29,300 dollars) and the second one for 24,500 pounds (about 34,000 dollars).

Mitsubishi Motors in the UK Operations Director, Paul Bridgen commented on this, saying, "These vehicles represent not only a huge part of Mitsubishi’s heritage and history in the UK, they are also very special vehicles in their own right. They each have a unique story to tell and they have been cherished and cared for from the day we acquired them."

14 cars were put up for auction. The local division of the company considers these cars to be significant for its history. Four of them belonged to different generations of Lancer Evolution, and they provided 60% of the total revenue. In total, the company earned 479,500 pounds (665,828 dollars).

Mitsubishi plans to stop selling new cars in the UK by the end of this year, retaining only service points.

Another iconic Japanese sports car, the Nissan Skyline GT-R, set a price record last October. For a coupe produced in 2002 in a rare version of the M-Spec Nur, they paid approximately 313.4k USD.
