The first images of Ferrari’s new 488 Pista just leaked online, and this new car is still sweet!
The 488 is already a fabulous ride, and now it’s set to get even better. Images for the upcoming Ferrari 488 Pista have just been leaked on the Ferrari enthusiast site Ferrariphotopage.com, giving us our first glimpse at the Italian carmakers latest supercar.
But before we get into the nitty-gritty of rumored specs and what these images reveal, we have to talk about the name. When the 488 Pista was first being discussed it was thought to bring back the GTO badge that Ferrari has occasionally used to denote particularly awesome versions of already awesome cars. Then, it turns out they’re using the name Pista, which at first glance seems to be referencing pistachios, a tasty form of nut, but actually is a word for a runway or a race track.
Now that’s out of the way, here’s what we know. Most of the information surrounding the Pista comes from unconfirmed rumors from a private presentation Ferrari held for their dealers shortly before these images released. Take them all with a grain of salt.
To start, the engine will be an evolution of the 488 Challenge’s engine which is 10 percent lighter than the earlier 488 GTB. Top speed is 211 mph from an engine that puts out 721 bhp at 8,000 rpm. Zero to sixty is accomplished in around 2.8 seconds.
Curb weight is 2822 lbs, which is accomplished by making as much of the car out of carbon fiber as possible. The hood, bumpers, rear spoiler, and even the wheels are all made of the carbon stuff. The wheels in particular at 40 percent lighter than the GTB’s alloy wheels as a result of switching to carbon.
The official unveiling of the Ferrari 488 Pista happens February 20th at 1:00 p.m. EST, so we’ll likely hear some confirmations as well as price and production run numbers then. The car will make her first public debut at Geneva in March.
