In case you haven’t heard, Hummer is back and no longer the gas guzzling behemoth that was once the go-to vehicle of Arnold Schwarzenegger. The new version will be under the GMC brand and it’s all electric, and this time around, it is LeBron James who is the celebrity face attached to the vehicle. The new vehicle will debut officially on May 20, 2020, but last week the world received a preview of the forthcoming electric beast.

The days of gas guzzling may be gone, but that doesn’t mean the new Hummer EV is any less of an impressive specimen. Featuring 1,000 horsepower and 11,600 lb-ft of wheel torque this new vehicle means business. It goes from 0-60 mph in three seconds flat, which is pretty impressive considering the size of the thing. Sales of the vehicle are slated to kick off in fall 2021.

The ad for the new Hummer EV first ran during the third quarter of the Super Bowl, and equated its strength and dominance to that of LeBron James. In the ad, the global superstar basketball player is seen shattering a glass backboard with a dunk. Still there isn’t much of the car viewable. Instead GMC opted for metaphor and the kind of ringing celebrity endorsement that should at least get some people talking, and it certainly has.

When the Hummer EV hits the market, it’ll offer up to three electric motors according to reports. That means there will be different electric ranges and multiple performance levels that are offered at various price points. Furthermore, GM President Mark Reuss said that there will be a “basic package” available as well as one for customers looking to go off-road and tow. So far estimates are pointing towards a $70K sale price, but we’re still a while away from really knowing anything.
