You may or may not have heard of Legacy Overland. Well if you haven’t, what they do is take your vintage/classic off-roader and virtually turn it into a brand new car. Think of it more as a complete rebuild of the car, not a simple restoration. It was founded by Robert Madeira in Greenwich, Connecticut and they are still based there today, with a further workshop in Portugal. They are full on restorations, frame-off and all, so they don't just do a few bits here and there and then put it all back together. Even the engine is rebuilt. And now, they have a gorgeous Defender 90 LS3 6.2L V8 listed on their website. Let's take a look.

Former Military Machine

This particular Defender hardtop is actually an ex-military example, so it has certainly been through quite a lengthy transformation. Racing was in mind when it came to the engine, and it has been transformed with a new GM LS3 6.2L V8 good for 450 hp mated to a 5-speed NV4500 manual gearbox. Plus, to accommodate that extra power its come with more new features such as a heavy-duty suspension, sway bars, and Wilwood disc brake upgraded with six calipers.

Of course, the upgrades are not just confined to the internals of the car. As you can see it has been massively transformed on the exterior, finished in glossy Quantum Gray, with black and silver accents, giving the car an authentic yet at the same time, modern look. To further enhance the look of the car, it was given a heritage grille and lamp bezels, so as to not lose that vintage Defender feel.

It certainly gives the car an incredibly aggressive presence when you see it. Legacy Overland wanted to keep some of its military roots on show, however, and the doors have very much stayed the same, just restored, with the original military-style of the door and also including the sliding windows.

Even the floor of the Defender has seen an incredible amount of attention to detail. The floor is covered in German square weave carpet with walls and roof in charcoal suede and it, going beyond what other restoration companies may, or may not, do. The front seats were changed to genuine early-1980s Porsche 911, and give plenty of comfort to driver and passenger. Legacy Overland has done an amazing job transforming this military vehicle into something that not only looks good but drives good and is great for any type of driving on the road.
