Oscar-winning actor, serial model monogamist, and eco-conscious Citi Bike renter Leonardo DiCaprio's most recent project might not garner the praise he seems to crave from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, but the films will certainly further his reputation as a celebrity set to use his influence for good. In a pair of new videos posted to YouTube, the longtime Hollywood leading man has turned his talents to the small screen in advertisements for Fiat's new electric car.

Of course, car advertisements these days don't typically dive as deep into actual performance and engineering as they once did, instead tending to rely on star power, interior amenities, and maybe a bit of humor to grab attention. Just remember the Jennifer Lopez and Gucci Fiat ads of the past or even the 500X commercial featuring a little blue pill.

The New 500

Fiat has discontinued the smallest 500 in the United States, leaving only the aforementioned 500X and 500L on the market. Apparently, the diminutive version was just too small (and perhaps too European) for the majority of American consumers, though it certainly occupied a niche in the market for low-priced style, with surprisingly solid driving dynamics compared to other cars at its price-point, like the Nissan Sentra. But the 500e variant always disappointed in terms of range estimates. Not so in the new car.

Bigger And Better

In fact, the new 500e is bigger and better in just about every way—at least, on paper. It measures 2.3 inches longer, 2.3 inches wider, and 1.6 inches taller. But most importantly, the estimated range has received a massive bump up to 199 miles. As reported by Carscoops, it will also be the company's first offering with full Level 2 autonomous technology. But for anyone who thinks all that sounds like a great way for Fiat to jump back into the American market, guess again. The YouTube clips aren't even visible in the United States.
