The Heritage Of The American Horse

To completely understand why the electric Mustang is so disputed, we need to start at the beginning. In the late 1950s and early '60s an American hero named Lee Iacocca, an automotive executive who worked his way up from the bottom, became head of a project known as Mustang.

Iacocca wanted a car with many options that he would then be able to sell to anyone. There was a Mustang, with not too much power for going to get groceries with the kids, all the way to the Mustang that you could drive at the strip. Each model had to look good, but affordability was the key to success. Since those early days, Mustang has kept its tradition of being a front-engined, rear-wheel drive, affordable, American Dream.

The incredibly controversial Mustang Mach E GT is no doubt a monster on wheels, producing 480 hp and with 634 lb-ft of torque from a dual electric motor setup, says our host. It boasts a 0-60 time of just 3.5 seconds.

The electric SUV that RacerX looks great in the famous Mustang color called Grabber Blue. Our presenter continues the tour by showing us all the similarities and differences of the traditional Mustang GT vs the Mach E GT on the exterior, including the fact that it is an SUV with 4 doors vs a two-door low car.

He also shows us the rear hatch, which he says is quite bizarre to open as a Mustang owner himself. The interior is more of the same with some similarities such as logos and steering wheel, but that is about it. The car has a tiny instrument cluster that pops out of the dash in a seemingly unorthodox way, as he points out. Directly in the center of the dash, he shows us a very large screen, which is very typical in the EV segment. He does show us how this one is unique in that it has a physical knob on the screen.

RacerX is a Mustang GT owner. He knows and loves Mustangs, as he has made quite clear throughout the video. Does he consider the Mustang Mach E GT a “real Mustang?” Well, short answer, no. He agrees that the truck is a very capable, comfortable, technologically advanced and fast vehicle, but as he tells us it is not a Mustang. He tells us different is not a bad thing, but different should come with a different name.

At $70,000 as equipped on the model he is testing, it is not a cheap, affordable, car for the blue-collar worker. This is without the dealership mark-ups. RacerX tells us it's a great car. It's just not a Mustang, it has no Mustang soul. You don't feel the heritage and that it should not be wearing the Mustang badge. What do you think?
