General Motors Co (GMC) has been a big name in the world of powerful SUVs and trucks for a long time. However, it was only recently that they decided to delve into electric vehicles (EVs). Using parent company GM’s Ultium Platform, GM began offering one of their most well-known and powerful models, the Hummer, in EV form as well.

With cleverly located space and cargo areas, Lunar Horizon-themed coloring, and considerate material choices, it's worth taking a more in-depth look inside the GMC Hummer EV. Not only have they kept true to the original heritage by providing a powerful EV alternative to the original Hummer, but they have also made the newest offering incredibly attractive, both inside and out.

Although some details come from other GMC models, these material choices do not take away from the overall aesthetic of the cabin. The intelligent materials and modern technology that fill the spacious interior make the SUV as appealing inside as rugged outside.

Let’s take a peek at the interior of the GMC Hummer EV.

Smart, Classy Materials And Ample Space Inside The GMC Hummer EV

Formulated for rugged use, but with comfort in mind, the interior of the GMC Hummer EV boasts a unique combination of attributes. The leather-wrapped seats fit five adults comfortably and come in one of two color schemes — either black and taupe or black and light gray. Both color schemes also include bronze accenting to add a pop of color throughout the cabin.

Called the “Lunar Horizon” and “Lunar Shadow” pallets by the company, these schemes are a homage to the Lunar Rover used in late Apollo missions. Keeping to this theme, there is also an Easter egg featuring a topographical map of the Sea of Tranquility set into the grille covering the speakers of the cabin. The Sea of Tranquility (or Mare Tranquillitatis) is a sea on the surface of the moon, where United States astronauts Buzz Aldrin and Neil Armstrong first landed and became the first humans to set foot on the lunar surface.

The flooring of the Hummer EV is durable all-weather rubber material to ensure that it can take the fallout from whatever rugged terrain you choose to transverse in the SUV. With the plentiful room, you can not only take along your friends for the ride, but also all the gear you could potentially need.

The Hummer EV features a front-located power trunk with 11.3 cubic feet of space, while the interior features seats that fold flat. Beneath those seats is a cargo floor, also emblazoned with the etching of the Sea of Tranquility for an additional aesthetic touch, that lifts to allow for under-floor storage. Additional storage comes in the form of a storage compartment in the driver’s side rear quarter panel as well.

With an infinity roof that comes with modular sky panels, the room in the Hummer EV seems even further amplified as the space between the passengers and the world outside reduces. In addition to the four sky panels that are light enough for single-person removal and can be easily stored in the front trunk, the central I-bar above the front seats is removable, and the rear window rolls down as well, making the truck feel like a super-capable convertible.

Updated Technology Inside The Hummer EV

The technology inside the Hummer EV is expansive and advanced. It includes a 12.3-inch driver information display screen as well as a 13.4-inch infotainment touchscreen system. The Hummer EV comes standard with compatibility with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, as well as the ability to host a 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot. Additionally, the SUV can connect via Bluetooth, utilize voice commands, and work as a hands-free phone.

Attached to the infotainment system is a premium Bose speaker set with 14 high-performance speakers with AudioPilot, Centerpoint, SurroundStage technologies, and Active Sound Management. The Active Sound Management system provides an immersive sound experience for the driver as the speakers supply realistic ICE sounds that connect to the torque and speed of the Hummer EV, giving it a more familiar feeling and feedback. This is not something new to the EV world. Many newer EVs, including the Dodge SRT, Mustang Mach-E, and some of the latest offerings from Hyundai now feature fabricated ICE sounds.

Also embedded in the SUV is an advanced navigation system to ensure mapping services even in remote areas, and all the comforts you could hope for when away from home are present, including wireless charging and infotainment systems for the rear seats. There is also a 6.0 kW Power Station generator available as an optional upgrade that can charge not only equipment but also other EVs as needed.

Overall, the Hummer EV has a ton to offer in the area of rugged off-road readiness and stays true to its heritage as a beastly and capable truck with over 1,000 horsepower (in the pickup iteration, 830 horsepower in the SUV). However, the Hummer goes beyond those qualities to include plentiful interior features and upgrades that make it comfortable to take to far-flung places without worrying about a lack of amenities.
