This customized BMW M4 sports the wide-body mod from Liberty Walk and a host of other additions.

Andrew Britton has always owned modified cars. In an interview with Fast Car, he describes his passion for altered wheels as something of an obsession. He says he “just can’t leave them alone.”

His previous car was a modified Mercedes CLA with a new air-ride suspension system. Having a car that can be lowered to within an inch of the ground is just one of the many things that draws Britton to an awesome mod.

But as with all boys and their toys, Britton eventually lost interest in his bespoke custom Merc. He needed something new to scratch that special itch. That’s when a BMW M4 rocketed past him on an English highway.

You could describe it as Andrew’s eureka moment.

“I walked into the dealer in Coventry and found myself driving out in this M4 the same day – I just fell in love with the color,” Britton said. What started off as a bone stock M4 quickly got its first set of mods, however.

First, and most important, was to ditch the old suspension for a new set of Air Lift Performance struts with AccuAir E-Level management. A month after that, a friend of his showed him the Liberty Walk widebody kit and dared him to put it on his M4. So he did.

After getting the new body kit installed at DPM Autobody, new rims are tires were procured, with rubbers from Toyo getting the final go ahead. Forged alloy 3SDM 3.01 split-rims were next, with CNC Liberty Walk logos thrown in for free.

The steering wheel--a carbon fiber and Alcantara-wrapped circle with buttons lining the edges--was all Britton, although he admits it took him several more hours to complete the job than it would have a trained BMW technician.

Finally, under the hood we have the same S55B30T0 3.0-litre twin-turbo inline six-cylinder as the bimmer was born with, but given a straight-through exhaust system for added sound.

The final product speaks for itself. Who knows how long the M4 will last before Britton gets that itch again, but for now it’s his most prized possession and one that never fails to draw a crowd.
