The Chevrolet Tahoe and its mechanical twin, the GMC Yukon, both of which are GM-owned, debuted in 1991 and have been at it for the past 20 years with nary a break. 2021 will see the Chevy Tahoe in its fifth generation, and as usual, we expect it to be the very best to date.

But even older examples of Chevrolet Tahoe do make for a long and mostly problem-free keep, which is why this is one car that people tend to keep for long, especially if they have large families that need hauling. In fact, the 2010 model of the Tahoe is also often considered one of the best-used SUVs in the market today.

Now, the more people keep a car, the more they tinker with it. Luckily for the Tahoe, its large size makes it ideal for mods, especially if you're thinking about lifting it and giving it a more monster-truck-like appearance to turn it into a true off-roader.

Here are the 10 coolest lifted Chevy Tahoes we found and the details we could dig up about them.

10 The Nattily-Dressed Black Chevy Tahoe

via CARiD

First things first, doesn’t this Chevy Tahoe look sharp in black? It’s a 2015 example, and one that came with high ranking because of its powerful engine and smooth ride, and a cabin with a touch of luxury with enough space for a large family with its three-row setup.

And lifted, it looks like this very capable gentleman is sporting a red bow tie, the perfect clash to its black body. We also love those extra-large wheels and the very, very capable tires on them, enough to make this family car looks like an offroad beast.

9 If The Wheels Fit, On A 2004 Tahoe

This 2004 Chevrolet Tahoe is wearing the coolest set of wheels, 20X12-44 TIS wheels, and Nitto Mud Grappler 35X12.5” tires, along with a six-inch-high, for the coolest mud-slinging high the driver can have. Clearly, it can be done, because it has been done.

The stance is aggressive because the wheels fall outside the fender and the amount of mud spatter the Tahoe is wearing, means it can skim over the gooiest puddle of mud you can find your jollies in.

8 The High Rolling 2017 Chevy Tahoe

via CustomOffsets

A 2017 Chevy Tahoe is a fairly recent model and not one you’d normally see tinkered with, but then again, one man’s car is his oasis. So this black Tahoe is wearing turquoise 26X16-103 Specialty Forged wheels with Fury Offroad Country Hunter 38X15.5” tires because it can.

The Tahoe is riding on a 12” lifted suspension and wearing no spacers in the front or rear because the lift has been done so smoothly. Does it ride well? Well, you have to chase down the owner and ask.

7 Three’s A Crowd Tahoe

In 1991, there was still a three-door Tahoe and up until 1995, it was still called the Blazer, mostly because the Tahoe replace the K5 Blazer in 1991. It came with Chevy’s 5.7-liter engine as a standard and looked rather chunky as compared to the three-door crossovers of today.

And yet, lifted, and wearing chrome wheels, the 1995 Tahoe manages to carry a retro-cool factor, even if it may be technologically behind today’s times. For all we know, we may be seeing a classic of the future in the picture.

6 The Take-My-Breath-Away SEMA Tahoe

via Autoclassics

This is a 2015 Tahoe but modified to look like a modern version of the three-door Tahoe, and basically was the buzz of the 2015 SEMA. Of course, this is not a simple lifted SUV, but a whole build where a Tahoe was butchered, to give rise to an even more gorgeous Phoenix, so to speak.

The lifted SUV now ran on 33” tires, and the entire build that began as a small side project blossomed into something big, so done by Madison Automotive. Oh, and it was lifted a whole ten inches.

5 The 2004 Tahoe That Chews Up Terrain

via DrivingLine

The 2004 example of the Chevy Tahoe is cheap and plentiful and something that can be built-up, high, without issues, mostly because it has a ton of aftermarket support, including suspension. The lift in this is modest, riding on a six-inch kit with 35-inch tires.

Now while the pictures look like this Tahoe could chew and spit out any kind of terrain, do remember that the Tahoes of this time came with a solid axle configuration, not a coil-over or coil-over strut one, so the off-roading in it needs to be kept gentle.

4 The Old-School Tahoe

via YouTube

Chevrolet Tahoes are one of the most proliferate SUVs on the road today, and you’re likely to find plenty of good examples on the used-car lot as well, many for under $10,000 simply because of the mass of these produced.

Rugged, maneuverable, and rather cheap to maintain, an old Tahoe can last you years to come. And if you lift it, and run it on the best wheels and tires you can afford, well, you have a family carrier that can take on rough roads with ease.

3 Bead-Locked & Loaded Tahoe

via Pinterest

Apparently, this little wonder was bought by its current owner off the used lot for a very cheap $2,900, given it a 2002 model, in the LTX 4X4 trim. Then came the modifications. A six-inch lift, 20X12 Moto Metal 988 wheels, and 35” inch Nitto Ridge Grappler tires went in to make it badass.

Add to this subtle but powerful aesthetic changes, like better headlights and taillamps, mirrors, as well as a custom grille and bumpers, and this Tahoe turned tough, JLT. Pretty sure the insides were sharpened too.

2 Red-On-Red Tahoe Makes Others Green

via CARiD

We love ourselves a red Tahoe, mostly because it is not a common sight. And this 2015 Tahoe that wears a custom red paint along with color-mated wheel lips has us hog-tied for some lovin’. The tires look very capable and the wheel has us seeing green, not red, mostly with envy.

via CARiD

A sturdy, full-sized SUV running down the highway in red, and lifted well above the others of its kind has to have all eyes on it, so the owner here absolutely knew what he or she was aiming for and got it done.

1 Black’s The Way To Tahoe

via ArkonOffRoad

A 2015 Tahoe, this black, is stunning as it is. When it comes lifted eight inches above its normal ride and rides on 22X12-51 Arkon Off-Road Lincoln wheels with Road One Atheon MTX 35X12.5” tires, it takes collective breaths away, although it wears purgatory vibes.

If Dean, from Supernatural, ever wanted a replacement for his Baby, as in the 1966 Chevy Impala, this is the car he should go for. Stanced, sexy, and oh-so-sleek, this all-black Tahoe is the way to go, yellow. Enough said.
