The new mid-engined Corvette has hit the streets, leading to a flood of videos from happy owners as they put their new toys through the paces. But as amazing as America's new affordable supercar might be, it's still only available in a maxed-out Z51 package, which ups output from the 6.2-liter V8 to 495 horsepower. That's an impressive figure for the C8, though it still pales in comparison to the supercharged Z06 and ZR1 packages that were available on the outgoing C7. As a reminder of sorts to ecstatic new C8 owners, a new YouTube video popped up showing a tuned C7 in ZR1 trim pumping out 875 wheel horsepower on a dynamometer.

Blasting It Out

It's a safe bet to assume that Chevrolet intends to release more powerful iterations of the C8 relatively soon—a possible hybrid, all-wheel-drive setup has the rumor mill swirling already. But at the moment, the C8 seems a bit underpowered given that the outgoing C7 could be had with 755 horsepower on tap straight from the factory. Keep in mind that the V8 engines employed by both generations of the Corvette displace the same amount, but the older car employed a supercharger to boost power figures in a big way. But even that improved figure wasn't enough for some maniacal tuning shops, clearly.

Enter Vengeance Racing of Cumming, Georgia. The shop just posted the video above of a customer's C7 ZR1 cranking out 875 horsepower and 739 lb-ft of torque on 91 octane fuel—at the wheels. Upgrades to support that kind of power include ported heads, a cam kit with Stage III camshaft, CNC ported supercharger and snout, and pulley kits. Air intake upgrades, an oil catch can, and a three-disc clutch also fit into the mix. Now, all those mods are obviously possible on the C8, as well, though it remains to be seen when exactly Chevy will release more impressive versions of the already impressive mid-engined Corvette.
