For many Mustang fans, part of the appeal of the outgoing Shelby GT350 is the sound of that naturally aspirated, high-revving V8. But with the supercharged GT500 now serving as king of the hill and the GT350 on the way out to make room for a revived Mach 1 variant, that wailing engine could be an endangered species. But now, Hennessey Performance has released a video showing just how amazing Ford's Voodoo V8 sounds with a supercharger bolted on to produce a claimed output of 850 horses from the 5.2-liter powerplant.

Turn Up The Sound To Hear This Mustang V8

The current Mustang lineup offers something for everyone—and one of the best aspects of Mustang ownership has to be the wide range of aftermarket support available with just a few clicks on a keyboard. But as usual, the Texas-based tuners at Hennessey have escalated the muscle car wars to a new level with the HPE850 package, which bolts a blower onto Ford's screaming engine with its 8,250-RPM redline.

If the sound in Hennessey's newest video isn't enough to convince potential buyers that they're on the right track, the stats and specs for the HPE850 package should do the trick. The supercharger unit itself is larger than most commuter car engines, displacing 3.0 liters and supported by high-flow components including the throttle body, fuel injectors, heat exhanger, and intake system. All together, the setup allows for a dyno-proven 858 horsepower and 673 lb-ft of torque, as well as a 0-60 time of only 3.3 seconds on the way to a quarter-mile in 10.8 seconds at a trap speed of 133 miles per hour.

Six-Speed Stick Shift

While the GT500's critics may lament the fact that Ford's most powerful Mustang ever doesn't come equipped with a manual transmission, Hennessey's HPE850 package for the GT350 and GT350R does allow drivers to row their own gears with a six-speed stick shift. And best of all, the work comes with a two-year/24,000-mile warranty to help assuage any concerns that forced induction modifications on such a high-revving engine could lead to serious problems down the line.
