A roaring soundtrack is a big boost to the visceral driving experience. This is especially true if you're driving a thoroughbred supercar with groovy audio. This ultra-rare Ferrari 599 SA Aperta indeed sounds great and loud. How loud? Novitec brand ambassador Bijon de Kock tells us in the latest episode of the Supercar Diaries.

An Elegant Italian Piece Of Roofless Monstrosity

Usually, there's no need to be so loud. But when your supercar has a V12 engine under its hood, the temptation to make it sound as great as possible is hard to resist. To make the V-12-powered Ferrari 599 SA Aperta roar as loud as lion, Novitec offers a simple yet effective solution: a sport muffler.

To determine how loud a 599 SA Aperta can be with Novitec's sport muffler, de Kock brought a decibel meter. The engine was started and the 599 SA Aperta accelerated, creating an elegant piercing growl. When its perceived loudness was measured, the decibel meter showed a nasty 124.7 db. That's as loud as a rock concert or a jet engine!

A perceived loudness of 124.7 db might be too loud on some locations. As a sign of respect to people living in the area and in accordance to some local regulations, the 599 SA Aperta's soundtrack can be adjusted. Through a selector in the cabin, this rare Ferrari with Novitec's sport muffler can be a loud roaring lion or a swift silent cheetah on the hunt.

This is thanks to its V12 mill delivering 661 hp (493) of max output and 457 lb-ft.While Ferrari implemented various measures to keep the 599 SA Aperta as light possible, it remains quite heavy. Nonetheless, the performance is superb, as the special edition can sprint from nil to 62 mph in 3.6 seconds and reach a top speed of 202 mph.
