The electrification of cars isn't the only transition happening. Motorbikes are also switching over to becoming fully electric. And like cars, we all have anxiety about the range and charging times of these electric bikes. The good news is that the technology is moving so fast that we are now seeing motorbikes with some decent ranges and fast charging times.
Electric motorbikes may have some time to go before they are really convenient for driving across the lower 48, but it's abundantly clear that that day is coming and isn't very far off. Already there are lots of impressive choices that are more than enough for getting to work and back and exploring your local area. Here are the motorcycles with the longest range, ranked.
8 2020 Evoke Urban Classic - 124 Miles
Last year's 2020 Evoke Urban Classic comes in last place in this list of electric motorcycles. How this list is dominated by 2021 models is a testament to how fast the industry is developing and improving. The 2020 Evoke Urban Classic has a combined range of 124 miles. It's not clear what its city and highway ranges are. The 2020 Evoke Urban Classic is less than exemplary on the highway as well, with a top speed of 81 mph.
Evoke is actually a Chinese-based company that this starting to go into the motorcycle business. Still, its name "Urban Classic" would suggest its creators have more your commute to work in mind rather than cross-country highway driving.
7 2020 Harley-Davidson LiveWire - 95-146 Miles
The 2020 Harley-Davidson LiveWire also makes this list with its city range of 146 miles and combined range of 95 miles. The Harley-Davidson seems a little overpriced for its specs compared to others on this list.
It comes with an MSRP price tag of a hefty $29,799 and not only is its range a little subpar compared to others on this list, but it also only has a top speed of 110 mph. Still, it is the first fully electric bike from Harley-Davidson and the first from a mainstream motorbike company.
6 2021 Zero SR - 90-179 Miles
Zero makes some of the longest-range motorbikes, but the 2021 Zero SR is a little more modest. It comes with a city range of 179 miles and out on the open highway, you can expect some 90 miles. Combining these, you can expect around 120 miles on a single charge.
This is far from Zero's top product, but it offers a more affordable option for those wanting reasonable performance while going a little easier on the budget. The 2021 Zero SR comes with an MSRP of $17,990.
5 2021 Lightning Strike Carbon Edition - 100-200 Miles
Next on the list is the 2021 Lightning Strike Carbon Edition. This fully electric bike has a top city range of come 200 miles and a highway range of 100 miles. The combined city and highway range coming in at 152.
It can also reach a top speed of 150 MPH and its charge time is only 35 minutes. It retails at around twenty thousand dollars with its MSRP being $19,998.
4 2021 Zero SR ZF14.4 - 112-223 Miles
The Zero SR ZF14.4 claims to have the longest range on the market, but it would appear that both the Demon and Lightning Strike edge it out. Regardless, Zero advertises its bike as having a city range of 223 miles and a highway range of 112 miles. That gives it a combined range of 150 miles.
The Zero SR ZF14.4 also advertises that 223 miles of city driving will only cost you around $2.02 - presumably in the cost of electricity with charging the bike.
3 2021 Energica EVA EsseEsse9 - 112-250 Miles
The Energia EVA EssEsse9 + is one of the best electric motorcycles out there on the market. It comes with a range of 250 city miles, a highway range of 112 miles, and a combined range of some 143 miles. It also comes with DC Fast Charge Mode 4 that allows it to charge to 80% in 40 minutes.
While the range is certainly not as good as the likes of some of the electric cars out there (e.g. Lucid Air has a range of 500 miles), it is still more than enough to commute to and from work and to travel across the state.
2 2021 Damon HyperSport Premier - 200+ Miles
The 2021 Damon HyperSport Premier is one of the best bikes Damon has to offer. It comes with an impressive highway range of 200 miles, it's not clear how much the city mileage is, but it is likely to be significantly more.
But this hyper sportbike doesn't stop there, it also comes with a top speed of 200 mph! Now that is fast and significantly more than the 125 mph that the Energica EVA EsseEsse9+ can get up to.
1 2021 Arc Vector - Perhaps 270 Miles
The Arc Vector is advertised with a NEDC (New European Driving Cycle) range of 436 km, or 270 miles. It's not stated how this compares to the ranges measured for these other bikes, but it could be the longest out there. We have been measuring them with city, highway and combined ranges, it's not clear how that compared to NEDC measurements.
The Arc Vector has a top speed of some 125 mph and a charge time of 40 minutes. Arc Vector is a British company making motorcycles.
In summary, there are now plenty of options to choose from if you are looking to replace your bike with an electric one.
