The Chevrolet Corvette is one of the finest sports cars to come from America. But not only that, it is also one of the best sports cars to use as a pace car in a motor race. It is often seen fulfilling these duties at events such as the Indy 500. And at the 2022 Indy Mecum Auction, the auction house is bringing an incredible 18 car lot of Chevrolet Corvette pace cars, all of which are from the Indianapolis 500.
An Impressive Corvette Collection
All of these Corvettes are so impressive. They come from Dr. Richard Foster, who has spent a lifetime amassing this unbelievable collection of pace cars, festival cars and pace car replicas. This selection of cars includes three official pace cars, eight IMS-authorized replicas and six Corvette pace car editions, four of which have earned honors from prestigious Corvette judging bodies, including Bloomington Gold and NCRS. The auction will also include a 2022 Corvette not pictured in the listing, as it is going through an authorized conversion into a Corvette pace car and will make its way to its new owner once the conversion is fully completed.
What Corvettes Are Going Under The Hammer
There are plenty of fascinating cars going under the hammer as part of this collection. One of the most impressive is the 1978 Chevrolet Corvette Pace Car Edition. This is a remarkable unrestored example, with just 50 miles on the clock since it was new. Finished in black and gray with red striping, it is also a Bloomington Gold Benchmark certified car. Then we have the equally stunning 1986 Chevrolet Corvette Pace Car Edition. This is also an unrestored car with 17,342 miles since new, and it is a Triple Diamond Recipient as well.
More Modern Pace Cars On Offer
There are some more modern pace cars on offer as well, one of which is a 2020 Chevrolet Corvette pace car replica, with just 2,319 miles on the clock since new. This particular Corvette also has the Z51 package installed. Perhaps one of the other more remarkable examples on offer is the 1998 Chevrolet Corvette Pace Car Edition. This car is almost brand new, with just one owner and 17 miles since it was new. It is one of just 547 examples produced with a six-speed manual transmission. It is resplendent in white with the American flag across the side.
