Now, it's official! The Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series is now the fastest street-legal production car in the Nürburgring Nordschleife. In a video and a very thorough press release detailing the specs and setting of the record-setting supercar, Mercedes-AMG has proclaimed that the AMG GT Black Series is the new king among the fastest street-legal cars in the Green Hell.

Two Nürburgring Tracks: Short And Complete Laps

For the sake of clarification even before questions arise, AMG released two record lap times. Why? Simply because Nürburgring Nordschleife has two track alternatives. The first track is the shorter circuit of 12.8 miles (20.6 km) that excludes the T13 section where cars take off for flying starts. First used in 1997, this track isn't a complete lap.

The second track is the longer lap, the complete Nordschleife track measuring 12.94 miles (20.832 km). This became the official Nürburgring lap in 2019. To note, the record that the Aventador SVJ set in 2018 was for the shorter lap (6:44.97 minutes) and it's the one broken by the AMG GT Black Series.

HotCars, citing automotive YouTuber Misha Charoudin, reported in late October that the AMG GT Black Series set a new street-legal production car record at the Nordschleife. But the record wasn't official yet at the time, and AMG was taking its sweet time to confirm the official record, probably to avoid being embroiled in another Tuatara-gate.

For the official times, the AMG GT Black Series – driven by AMG GT3 pilot Maro Engel -- completed the shorter lap in just 6:43.616 minutes and the official Nürburgring lap in 6:48.047 minutes. To note, the lap times were measured by neutral experts from “wige SOLUTIONS” while an independent notary certified the measurement.

Vehicle Specs And Adjustments Detailed And Notary-Certified

What's impressive in AMG's press release is the fact that it detailed the specs of the AMG GT Black Series used in the record run. Even the adjustments made to the suspension, camber, and traction control were detailed. AMG can't lie though, since all of these were also checked and certified by an independent notary. Perhaps Jerod Shelby should take note.
