Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong had a bit of a stressful time last week when he announced that someone stole his beloved Chevrolet Nova.

Luckily for him, the authorities recovered it and Armstrong later joked, “turns out I forgot where I parked it…” The good thing is, the Chevy Nova is damage-free, the bad news is, no one knows who filched it. Here’s what we know.

Billie Joe Armstrong Sent A Desperate Appeal To The Public

The “American Idiot” singer has always had a love for classic automobiles. In 2019, he and Billie Eilish had a conversation while sitting in his graffiti-covered 1963 Ford Falcon. Even earlier, he put his 1963 Chevy Nova SS convertible for auction, with an autographed guitar, in 2018.

But someone filched his 1962 Chevy Nova from Costa Mesa, along with two electric guitars and an amplifier. Armstrong turned to social media for help, writing on Instagram, “My car was STOLEN. This car is near and dear to all our hearts and has been in the GD family for over 30 years. Please send any sighting, tips, or info to the Costa Mesa police.”

He also requested that his fans repost the same so that the authorities could find his beloved car. And it seems his Instagram cry for help worked because officers located his car, based on tips from the public.

The Costa Mesa PD Delivered

The Costa Mesa Police Department tweeted that the Orange County Sheriff's Department found the car abandoned in the unincorporated area of El Modena in the city of Orange, acting on tips from the public.

The formal statement read, “No arrests have been made in this incident and no other items that were stolen have been recovered. We thank the public for reporting sightings which assisted in the recovery of the vehicle. We also thank the Orange County Sheriff’s Department for locating the vehicle.”

Armstrong also posted the happy news on Instagram, “FOUND MY CAR! A false alarm... turns out I forgot where I parked it… KIDDING! The truth is the person that stole it left it parked. Joy ride? Maybe.. who knows. We live in desperate times. Thank god It’s all in one piece. No damage. Thank you thank you to everyone that searched for my Chevy. ..love you all.”

So, that’s one happy singer/songwriter reunited with his much-loved classic. A 1962 Chevy Nova is not worth all that much, but it’s not always about money, honey…
