Lotus has been building towards the release of the company's first all-electric model, the Evija, over the past few months. Early images and teaser clips have looked absolutely stunning, though plenty of skeptics surely wonder how Colin Chapman's maxim to "simplify, then add lightness" will mix up with the weight of a battery. With every single Evija already sold out, clearly, very few buyers seem concerned about such a thought.

And now, as if to tease the rest of the automotive community that didn't have the funds and connections to get their names on the Evija list, Lotus has released a video showing the fun of a configurator for the electric supercar. Let's take a look.

Customization Control

With a price tag of about $2 million, anyone planning to get their hands on an Evija no doubt expects to be able to make all the kinds of customizations allowed by rivals like McLaren Special Operations. And Lotus hasn't disappointed, as each buyer gets to use a touchscreen device to build the car of their dreams.

The system is actually entirely digital, down to the rendering of the car itself, though the images look pretty solid. Colors for the Evija so far revealed include a tone-down shade of silver, plus brighter hues like Atomic Red, Solaris Yellow, and Carbon Black. From the exterior to the paint, interior, and environment, the configurator looks just as advanced as the Evija itself.

Build Quality

Buyers should begin receiving their configurators soon, though it will be months before the cars they design will actually be built in Lotus's Norfolk, England, production facility. By the time the final products do hit the roads, owners will also receive a coffee table book documenting the build process of their custom electric supercar—how many pounds it will weigh remains to be seen.
