Often referred to as the G-Wagon, the Mercedes G-class is one of the most iconic SUVs ever created. The car was originally developed for military use, but after the first civilian model was sold in 1979, it quickly garnered immense popularity for its recognizable square shape and remarkable durability. This helped make it the longest produced model in Mercedes' history. 40 years later, and the G-class still ably competes with the most competent cars in its segment, offering impressive power and refined quality.

Now synonymous with luxury, the G-class is actually a more popular choice than ever, especially among celebrities and enthusiasts looking to display their lavish lifestyle through their vehicles. And indeed, the amount of custom G-class models out there is astounding, so today we're sharing some of them with you. Enjoy!

10 Mercedes G63 Convertible

What's better than a luxury G-class SUV? A Luxury G-class SUV that's also a sports convertible! The owner of this beautiful (and powerful, mind you) G63 had the brilliant idea of making the car seem even more luxurious and passenger friendly by fitting it with a targa-top. Aside from that, the original model is actually a beast.

G63 is one of the most powerful trims for this car, featuring a 577-horsepower V8 that's usually able to launch the car to 60 mph in an incredible 4.4 seconds. For this reason, the price of this G wagon is a not-so-surprising $137,000.

9 Brabus 850 4x4² Final Edition

With the 850 4x4², Brabus took the G-class to the extreme. Only five were ever built, each designed for unparalleled off-road performance while boasting a trademark G-class luxury. The original G63 it's based on was completely re-engineered with its 5.5L V8 bumped up to 6.0L so that it produces a stampede of 838 horsepower and, even more impressively, 1069 lb-ft of torque.

This mountain-moving power, combined with a ridiculous ground clearance in excess of 23 inches guarantees the Brabus will easily overcome even the most daunting obstacles both on and off-road. What is the price for such a beast? A hefty $544,000.

8 Alpha Phoenix

G-wagons are large and beefy by nature, but German Alpha Armoring decided to kick it up a notch by enhancing the G63 AMG with an extended wheelbase, a partition wall behind the driver, and full-body armoring, effectively making it an armored limousine SUV. But that's not all, the car also features a 34-inch panoramic TV, a fridge, and 4 exterior security cameras.

They call it the Alpha Phoenix, and it's an impenetrable fortress on wheels. Capable of incredible performance both on and off tarmac, it uses a V8 developing 536 horsepower and 560 lb-ft of torque.

7 Brabus 900

Brabus is famous for taking Mercedes models and making them into monsters, but this thing is just otherworldly. Let it be known that no other SUV in the world can come even close to this thing in terms of performance. The car is technically a rework of the already beastly G65 AMG, but when Brabus was done with it, there was almost no Mercedes left. Under the hood angrily roars a twin-turbocharged V12 unleashing 900 horsepower and 1106 lb-ft of torque.

It's capable of reaching 62 mph in just 3.9 seconds, eventually being subdued by its 168-mph electronic speed limitation. It may look like an SUV, but this is nothing short of a supercar - one that will drift and slide with just a hint of gas. This model is one of ten ever produced, and the figure Brabus put on it comes out at just over $740,000.

6 Mercedes G500 4x4² Landaulet

Heavily modified by Brabus and stripped with its roof, this custom G500 Landaulet completely redefines the meaning of the term "luxury SUV." The car features multiple revisions to the original Mercedes-Maybach model to make it higher, more comfortable, and all-in-all more badass.

For example, the rear seats were pushed all the way back for ample leg room and maximum comfort. Fully reclining, they allow its lucky passengers a view to the sky as they ride inside the huge, alcantara-lined cabin.

5 Mercedes G-Class G63 AMG (Brabus 700) 6x6

Why have a 4x4 when you can have a 6x6? At least that's the logic behind this amazingly badass G-wagon. Offered up for sale by Luxury Auto Collection , this Brabus-modified G63 AMG 6x6 features a myriad of opulent aftermarket enhancements that raise its asking price to a mind-bending $1,650,000.

It's decorated with features such as LED daytime running lights, carbon-fiber accents, aluminium pads, LED-lighted entrance panels, and a completely mastik-leather interior, making it not only ridiculously huge and badass, it's also the epitome of luxury. Things are equally impressive under the hood, where hides a Brabus 5.5L V8 roaring with 700 horsepower 708 lb-ft of torque.

4 Hamann Typhoon

You'll either love this one or hate it. And although the heavy modification of this G-55 AMG may not agree with everyone, you can't deny its boldness. This one comes courtesy of Specialty Car Craft, who designed it as a one-off project for martial arts start Anton Kasabov. Building on the original Hamann-modified G55, Specialty Car Craft made some additional alterations on the car, such as giving it new daytime running lights, a different front grill, new bumper, and an aggressive black-and-red paint job.

As for the engine, the Hamann-modified original offers two packages, with the more powerful one providing a 5.4L V8 producing 600 horsepower and 576 lb-ft of torque.

3 Custom Low-slung Mercedes G63 AMG

We found this one on Race! - a South African high-end automotive importer. It's a bespoke version created by Onyx - a renowned automotive design house based in London. An interesting take on the G-wagon that you won't see very often, this one can't be more than a couple inches off the ground. The car's re-engineered bodywork features numerous high-end additions, such as the carbon fiber accents across the front grill and parts such as rear diffusers, and the spare tire holder are also fully complete in carbon fiber.

Underneath the aesthetic bodywork is still a AMG G63, which normally houses a 4.0L V8 developing 577 horsepower and 627 lb-ft of torque. But, being re-engineered with better aerodynamics and lower ground clearance, the car is supposedly make it even more beastly on the asphalt.

2 Mansory Mercedes G-Class Sahara Edition

This badass Mansory-modified G class looks ready for battelfield action. The design house completely re-engineered this famous off-roader by giving it a 6-inch wider body that's completely constructed of carbon fiber, making it lighter and more agile.

But that's not all they did. The most massive upgrade was in the engine department, where the car was upgraded from a regular 536-horsepower 5.5L V8 to produce an awe-inspiring 828 horsepower and 739 lb-ft of torque. Not even the interior remained stock, as everything from the seats to the dashboard got a new Mansory look.

1 Custom Mercedes-Benz G550 4×4²

This beautiful G-squared on huge Forgiato wheels belongs to none other than Kylie Jenner. The decision to paint it orange like her Aventador was arguably a good one as it creates a nice contrast between the car's darker carbon fiber accents. The G550 features a bi-turbocharged 4.0L V8 producing a decent 416 horsepower and 450 lb-ft of torque. However, weighing in at almost 7,000 lbs, the car really does need all this power in order to be at least somewhat quick and agile.

In this badass custom G-Squared, Kylie can expect to hit 60 mph in about 7.3 seconds, and have absolutely no problem overcoming even the most daunting off-road terrains (if for some reason, she needs to).
