Once it pops, it'll be hard to stop. This now applies to Maserati, which recently revealed its new MC20 offering. This new supercar ushers the Trident brand into the future. However, Maserati isn't just looking ahead, it's also thoroughly planning ahead. In fact, the Italian brand already has its white book opened for the future.

A New Era

The new MC20 with its groundbreaking Nettuno engine marks the start of a new era, which was paved by the unveiling of the Ghibli Hybrid in July and the launch of the Trofeo Collection in August. The Italian carmaker opened this new Era with its now fully modernized site on Viale Ciro Menotti in Modena, backed by the Maserati Innovation Lab.

With the advent of a new Era at Maserati, the Italian brand is unleashing a new strategy that calls for the electrification of its lineup. This strategy is dubbed Folgore, which is the Italian term for lightning. It's the most suitable name for such strategy, since lightning is itself a massive spark of electricity.

Folgore Electrification Strategy

Maserati's Ghibli Hybrid is the first spark of the Folgore. Its electrified powertrain is mainly focused on improving performance while saving fuel and reducing emissions.

The Ghibli Hybrid will be followed by 100% electric models, namely the new Maserati GranTurismo and GranCabrio. The Maserati MC20 supercar will also be getting an all-electric version.

Second SUV

Possibly a part of this new Folgore strategy is Maserati's second SUV – the Grecale. Just like its other vehicles, Grecale is named after one of the world’s most famous winds. However, it's unknown if Grecale is an all-electric SUV or a conventional model with a Folgore version.

New Maserati Programs

The new Maserati Era is also heralding two new programs. First is the Fuori Serie, a program that allows clients to customize their Maseratis according to their taste. Three basic collections serve as starting points: Corse, Unica, and Futura. This program is joined by Classiche, which aims to link the brand's future with its past by giving due prominence to its cars from its past.
