Maserati is well-known for big horses and high luxury standard looks all packed in a sedan. The Quattroporte on the other hand is well-known for being unreliable and expensive to repair. That is why it is important to know before you make your next buy. Throughout the years the Maserati Quattroporte has seen changes, the initial releases were not as successful as the Quattroporte V and Quattroporte VI which is still in production today.

This car does stand along with other competition cars like the BMW M5, E63 AMG, and Audi RS6. Mixing both speed, horses, and Italian luxury interior and exterior this car is best described as “Mama Mia” with the “ma che vuoi” hand gesture.

Although being known for great speed and thirsty need for gasoline this car is usually seen as a luxury sedan and let’s find out why, let's take a look at the best production years and which cuts the “ma che vuoi”!

When it comes down to value every car loses 15%-30% of its original value the minute you drive it off the dealership. Maserati’s are no different, with a $105,500 MSRP the car does lose most of its value in terms of money within the first 3 years.

Maserati does pack a lot of interior luxury parts to their Quattroporte models, but that’s not all. They chose to make the Maserati Quattroporte as fast as a two-door sports car with a max speed of 191mph, reaching 0-60 mph in 4.8 seconds. The GTS models could do 0-60 mph in 4.2 seconds.

Picking up a Maseratti would give the opportunity of having an engine designed by Maseratti and built by Ferrari. The car comes in both V6 and V8 supercharged engines, with a turbocharged diesel option more popular in Europe. To offset its scintillating performance, the V8 Maserati Quattroporte has lowered both its fuel consumption and emissions by 20% over the outgoing Quattroporte. The 2014 Quattroportes come in both AWD and RWD driven by an 8-speed transmission, which can be controlled manually by selecting the M button on the transmission tunnel.

Quattroportes also features a lot of luxury interior design, Pieno Fiore natural leather and new veneers are available in the sumptuous interior of the 2014 Quattroporte. The 2014 models also feature improved infotainment graphics and climate control ergonomics. Thanks to the long wheelbase the 2014 Quattroporte makes for a roomy sports sedan, while the premium luxury interior features give the driver and passengers a premium traveling sensation.

All things set aside, the 2014 Quattroporte is the best way to look rich under $20,000 as Doug DeMuro mentioned in his 2008 Quattroporte V review. As of 2021, the Quattroporte VI (made from 2014 and up) can be found for as little as $18,826 for an excellent condition Quattroporte according to KBB.

Performance And Reliability

Maserati took note of their outgoing Quattroporte V which came in two transmission options and chose to stick with an 8-speed for all their models compared to the previous Quattroporte which had a dual-semi-automatic transmission that needed a clutch replacement every 27,000 miles. All the engines are run by a timing chain but those were also known to wear if the oil was not changed every 10,000 miles. The Quattroporte VI has improved in all aspects of interior, exterior and mechanically it is the best Maserati you could own.

They also made the car more fuel-efficient as they took note from the general public on how thirsty these supercharged engines were. As mentioned above they improved efficiency by 20% in both emissions and fuel economy.

Maseratis can be expensive to repair if you send the car to the dealer as if it is the only choice to fix your problem. The design of the new Quattroporte VI is less complicated and you can avoid the high expensive labor hours of your dealer on oil changes and simple repairs.

Maseratis are also well-known for their great sound, the exhaust system is controlled by pneumatic valves in the pipes of each bank which passes through the unique Maserati Sound Tank to maintain the rich aural tradition of the brand. The V6 and V8 engines share most of the components with each other, same bore dimensions, variable valve technology, and very similar turbocharging, manifold, and engine block technology. The most powerful engine is the twin-turbo V8 found on the Quattroporte GTS - 530hp, followed by the Maserati Quattroporte S and S Q4 - 430hp Twin Turbo V6, 350 HP on their base model V6, and last but not least the most fuel-efficient diesel turbocharged engine with 275 hp.

In terms of reliability, the car will be as reliable as you want it to be. These engines are very powerful yet delicate and hard to work on for most mechanics. If you stick to the owner's manual and do the maintenance as required this Italian exotic car will give you the pleasure of performance and supercar looks.

Fun Fact: Quattroportes are long production models, meaning you can enjoy the looks of the latest model car despite riding on a 2014 model, so start making new space on your driveway to park your next Italian HotCar.
