Just days after announcing David Beckham as the new face of their brand, Maserati has teased us all with an "electric" promo video for their Levante Hybrid. The teaser doesn’t include any reference to the former professional footballer, or anyone else for that matter, but the electrified logo and building static sends a clear message of what’s ahead for the trident.
The video is the Italian brand’s first teaser for their crossover, the Maserati Levante Hybrid, and over Twitter announced April 19th as the official date for its the Digital Global Premire.
The Maserati Levante Hybrid Is On The Way
The static sound and lightning crackling across the legendary marque’s trident emblem then radiates outward. With the 2021 Maserati Levante, the Italian trident brought a special flare to the premium midsize SUV/crossover class. While the big German players do an admirable job, and the British Range Rover Sport has always been a staple, anyone who follows the European manufacturers with any vigor knows the Maserati name brings with it a certain aura.
What Could Be Under The Hood, So To Speak
It’s anticipated that like the Ghibli Hybrid, the Levante Hybrid will be fitted with a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine along with an electric supercharger and a 48-volt alternator.
With this, the Levante Hybrid will produce 330 horsepower (24 kilowatts) and 332 pound-feet (450 Newton-meters). The transmission is an eight-speed automatic. For the sedan, the acceleration can hit 62 miles per hour (5.7 seconds) and 158 mph (255 mph), and CO2 emissions drop over 25 percent as compared to the V6 diesel.
The teaser video’s transforming from silver to blue could indicate that the sedan may adopt the sapphire blue touches on the Levante Hybrid. The fender ducts, brake calipers and a bit of the emblem on the C-pillar have the additional trim, and the seat stitching on the inside matches the look.
Comparison To The Ghibli Hybrid Release
Back when the Ghibli Hybrid was introduced by Maserati, the company added several mild updates for the model’s lineup. Small revisions were made to the grille, headlights and taillights. The interior saw an increase in the infotainment system display, which grew from 10.1 inches from the original 8.4 inches and also gained a digital instrument cluster.
The teaser gives no indication as to when the Levante Hybrid will arrive on the scene, but by releasing the video and announcing the Global Digital Premire, it would seem that the wait may not be too far away. According to the Maserati product plan, the date for arrival of the Levante is sometime in 2023. That marks the same year it would begin using an electric version of the three-motor EV powertrain that Maserati has name, Folgore, which is Italian for “lightning.”
