The Mazda MX-5 is a sports car that has been with us for several generations now, with Mazda improving upon it each and every time. It is a car truly engrained in JDM culture. The Japanese company has now officially unveiled the latest generation of the MX-5, with plenty of refinements for the 2022 model year. Mazda have looked to make the MX-5 an even better handling and driveable car than ever before, including developing a new technology called Kinematic Posture Control.
The New Technology Behind The MX-5
The Kinematic Posture Control within the MX-5 is all about further improving the handling characteristics of the car. The Posture Control is all about offering an improvement in high-g cornering precision and confidence for the driver. The new technology manages the different systems on the MX-5 to help it behave as a harmonious extension of the driver's body, without adding a single gram of weight to the car. The system also applies a slight dab of brake to the inner rear wheel during high-g cornering, pulling down on that corner and suppressing body roll. This also has the bonus of making the steering response feel more linear in tight and rough corners. Stronger braking will occur when accelerating through a corner as well.
Further Details On The 2022 MX-5
The new KPC is not the only highlight of the 2022 MX-5. The 2022 MX-5 will have a rear-wheel drive layout as expected and have the Skyactive-G 2.0-litre engine that provides the car with some 181 hp at 7,000 rpm. The 2022 model year also sees the MX-5 Miata Sport and Club models exclusively paired with a six-speed manual transmission. The MX-5 Miata Grand Touring will come with either that manual transmission, or a quick-shifting six-speed automatic transmission with steering wheel paddle shifters.
Miata Sport And Miata Club Offer More Choices
The Sport and Club variants of the MX-5 allow more choice for those who want an MX-5. The Miata Sport will be available only with a black soft top, and its exterior will feature Platinum Quartz Metallic paint in the color options, an option that became available in the previous model year. The Miata Club’s standout features are its sporty design elements such as its gloss black front air dam, rear lip spoiler and black seat trim. The Grand Touring combines the best of the Miata Club and adds more comforts on top of that, such as an adaptive front-lightning system and the same front air dam and rear spoiler as the Miata Club. The new 2022 MX-5 goes on sale with an MSRP of $27,300.
